Nothing new, over 40 years ago a friend's son was invited to be accepted into a combination undergrad program with automatic acceptance into their medical school upon graduation. The only catch was that a sizeable donation was required, and the friend didn't have that sort of money to donate.

See, there is a protocol to follow here.

Getting your kid into a prestigious university requires more than the $450,000 these nouveau riche Hollywood-types were spending. Getting your kid into a good university requires an old-money size payment.

Like Jared Kushner's dad, Charles Kushner. Charles gave $2,500,000 to Harvard before Jared was accepted. Anything less just makes you a pleb. You think you're getting top-secret level security clearance later in life when your parents are only dropping $450,000 to get you into a university? Please.

Regarding Silicon Valley, all the big Engineering, Computer Science and especially Business Schools furnish the valley.
Historically, the valley flourished as San Jose State, Stanford, Berkeley, Santa Clara and all the Community colleges supplied the companies with talent.
SJS was one of the 1st to have specific degrees in High Tech Company Business Management; tailored for local companies. I majored in one and minored in Econ, CS and Math.
The JC's had the Vietnam vets with their benefits taking electronics courses.
The degrees were dirt cheap; heck the companies I worked for gladly paid for most of my education.
The rest is history.

The opportunity seems to be boundless. It has been for me.

How many NFL players have "degrees" they never would have gotten if they couldn't throw or catch a football? Listening to many of them being interviewed, it's hard to believe many of them graduated from ANY college.

My sister was going to University of Miami during Jimmy Johnson's national championship seasons and had a few 3.0 GPA football players in her communication classes and it was embarrassing and comical to hear these athletes talk in class.

They had the education level of a 9th grader.... but UM needed to win big games and championship titles.

Wealthy UM boosters showered athletes will non approved 'gifts' .

Did the benefactors know this is how they were admitted to university? From my understanding this was more of a vanity project of the parents doing.

You don't know how obtaining a clearance works you don't get one because one has a degree.

It probably doesn't even take a degree to get one, just depends on the job. People that I knew that had trouble getting one typically involved traveling a lot. People who just stayed in the US got one easily.

You don't know how getting a joke works. You don't get one because one takes things literally.

I was on a small college BBall team back in the 1970's. One of my teammates was pretty close to illiterate. I left the school after two years, and he was still there. I don't suspect he ever got a degree from that school, but he was a very good hooper.
