Stupid first post, but I was trying to learn about the best oil filter to use with synthetic oil in my truck, and kept running across the term OG filter. Can anyone tell me what "OG" means please. I tried google fu thinking it was a brand, but that didn't work. Thanks

There is no best filter.

OG is gone.

If you want a synthetic media filter, you need to post the year/make/model/engine and OE PN and some members here will xreference that info to the available full synthetic media filters.

I assume you've seen posts about the Fram Ultra, The "OG" Ultra is what we call the old design with double layer microglass over a wire backing, versus the new design where it's microglass over the top of cellulose blend media.
Thank you. I was looking at the Amsoil EA15K13 with Amsoil Signature 5w30 for my Nissan Armada. Can't locate one anywhere, and it would cost me about $35 to get one shipped from Amsoil. Second choice was the NAPA Platinum or Wix XP (which is supposed to be close or identical to the NAPA Platinum).

Your are correct. I guess what I meant was best for my situation where I use full synthetic Amsoil oil, and can't locate an Amsoil filter locally.

Some of the Wix/Napa XP/Platinum's now use Purolator Boss media. Not sure if the phase in is for all PN's or a slow changeover. So, flip a coin!
Amsoil/Royalpurple are options if you order enough to spread out shipping and currency conversion. For most, doubt its worth the expense.

For your engine, its more important to maintain a sensible oil change interval. With that, any of the mid grade or extended life filters will work well enough for that interval.

Using Amsoil doesn't automatically mean running the oil forever and ever, because marketing says so.

When I think of Nissan, I think of their peanut filter offerings. The PH7317 sized filter on a guzzling 5.6L V8 suv/truck really doesn't inspire confidence, especially when I use it on tiny, by comparison, motorcycle engine.

The truck is a 2015 and is a garage queen. Yesterday (Jan16th) was the 7th year anniversary that I bought it, and it has 29000 miles. I drive it about every two or three weeks just to keep things moving, and my OCI is twice a year. I'm sure it's overkill using Amsoil Signature, but with it sitting up most of the time and 6 month OCI, I don't mind changing the oil before it's due. And I agree with the size of the filter on a Nissan, it's unbelievably small. Even the one on my other car, a 2019 Nissan Murano (75,000 miles) it's miniscule compared the ones I used on my Broncos.

What truck exactly. And though I don't like that the new fram ultra looks cheaper i have yet to see it fail. The lack of wire backing does allow for more filtration area and the media is supposed to (if looking at fram's own numbers) be better yet at filtering. They can look a little wavy in cut and posts but i have yet to see one fail and tear open letting unfiltered oil go through. So I'd use it.

"OG" sounds idiomatic very regional. Use of the word "gangsta" screams of marketing.
Analagous to "the real enchilada"?
it didn't start out as marketing....
originally a song from Ice-T in '91. (Title Track of the Album) ( and I mean "originally" as it's the first place this Midwestern middle class white boy encountered the Term @ age 12)

It can mean "old guy" as well-the term may have been my fault, I was trying to differentiate between the old "built like a brick [CENSORED] house" Ultra, and the newer, more cheaply built, First Brands Ultra.
