What is everyones opinion on Hyundai quality, Safety, resale value and warrantee? Is the warrantee full of loopholes?
Someone i know is looking at the 2010 Santa Fe or maybe the Sonata..
I would really like feedback
Thanks

I think they are greatly improved and like most Asian automakers, just copy designs.

+1 on the copying designs.

That said, I had an accent rental car. It was exactly what I thought it would be - a barebones economy car with modern emissions and safety controls.

Too many people and manufacturers have forgotten that path. People think they deserve "performance", when they really get nothing but excess fuel consumption and expensive tires.

For what it is, it was fine.

I own a 2003 XG350L,the quality and safety are excellent. Bought the car new in 03, had one issue with the air bag light coming on also a leaking trans cooler in 04 or 05, other than that normal maintenance. Warranty took care of both, Excellent value Would purchase another.

Had a 99 accent briefly. Rode and drove nice, was a bit of a mystery mechanically. Had to lift the radiator to get the alternator out. Did not use a serpentine belt/ tensioner setup, had an old school jack screw.

Older hyundais had a wierd brake rotor setup too, but I think the new ones are normal.

Redid the valve cover gasket; machining and design of the rocker arms etc looked high quality. The idle speed control looked tacked on for american consumption. There are a lot of hyundais the world over driving on dirt roads that seem to survive!

Asking if they're any good is a dated question, maybe appropriate in y2k! They are a proven worldwide company and have been!

The only thing they lack in the US is a strong hybrid, electric, truck, or diesel presence. One can look at that two ways: they're hyperconcentrating on passenger vehicles, or they lack the engineering expertise to be a full line maker.

I think Hyundai and Ford are the top two car companies at the moment and if I were in the market it would be one or the other. (probably Ford because they are American and I own some stock)

+1 Hyundai is the company the rest of the auto companies need to look out for. They've got a nice line up and the features/money ratio is currently unmatched. The new Sonata looks really nice. And if I was in the market for a car today, I'd be giving the Genesis Coupe a serious look.

Like I said before... if it's a Korean car, it's considered a COPY; if it's a Japanese car it's considered "INFLUENCE". People are just so uneducated and ignorant.

Dang media really poisoned the image of Korea

What people don't know is that majority of the designers that design Hyundai cars were ex-American and European car designers.

Korea is not China, folks!!

To answer the question, Hyundai is one of the top car companies in America in reliability and customer satisfaction. Of course, like all car companies, dealer services are shady.

I think they are right on par with the rest of them, making very high quality automobiles often offering even more per dollar then your local big 3...

The thing is, back in the 1980's it wasn't considered a "Lemon Car" in many books that I have read. Lemon car was the Fiero, Yugo, etc etc.

Look out for Hyundai...they are the an up and coming automobile...the Sonata will give the Accord and Camrey a run for the money.

The Elantra was rated #1 in that class (Over the Civic) by Consumers Reports and the Sonata was a recommended vehicle by CR.

As others have said...If I were in the market, Hyundi would be on my list as well. Excellent warrenty too.

I also like what Ford is doing. The Ford Fusion (or clone Mercury Milan) should be one of the vehicles your friend should consider. I believe it was named "Car of the Year".

Our 2004 Elantra has been a pretty good car. Parts have been reasonably priced and there really hasn't been any mechanical issues in the first 110k miles.

My issue has been with the local service manager. Because of him, I'm never buying a Hyundai again.

My daughter drives a 2008 Sonata 4cyl. Cost $14,800 + tax new.
35k miles and no issues. Quiet, comfortable and looks nice. I might trade in my 2000 taurus for a 2011 Sonata this summer.

+1

I rented one, not by choice, in 96' and it was far from mainstream. I had to return it because the turn signals quit working. They gave me the Intrepid that I originally requested and that was a decent ride not even a caparison between the two. It was substandard in every way.

I'm glad you are using current vehicles for your comments. It's not like the last Hyundai you drove was 15 model years ago...

To the OP, I'd consider one before many other brands. For what I've seen a excellent vehicle with VALUE..

I rented a Sonata this decade, in 2006, and an Elantra in January of this year. Both cars were above my expectations. But, that was 10 and 14 years after 1996, respectively.

How does Hyundai get a pass on the junk they dumped here in the 90's, but the Big 3 don't?
