The 4 yr old original group 48 battery died in our 2021 Pilot in the Home Depot parking lot. Multiple warning lights with starter relay clicking which eventually stopped and then went into MIL lights illuminating, flashing, and at some points the cluster looked like the engine was on except with MILs indicating no power.

Had a 2008 Buick try to jump it at 1st with it revving at 2500 RPM to charge the battery and then start it, no luck.

Drove to the nearest parts store, O'Reilly, and picked up a Super Start Platinum AGM, after core it was $244. WalMart did not have ony group 48's.

What do you guys think about the Super Start brand? This is the 48 month warranty TOTL version and looks nearly identical to the Honda OEM except for the rounded cell caps, and possible some type of vent missing on the left side as compared to the OE.

I picked up a battery load tester to make sure the battery was indeed bad and I wasn't having any other electrical issues, starter test result was bad:

Oddly, after installing the new battery, the vehicle still wouldn't start. I closed the hood, waited a minute, and then it fired up.

Understand that group 48/H6 batteries fall under the European DIN standard. H5, H6, H7, H8, H9 etc, they all have very strict requirements for case dimensions, performance, construction and details. So regardless of brand, they will all look very similar with little variance other than case color, labels and a few minor details.

I believe your new battery is made by either Clarios or East Penn. If you can find the country of origin or manufacturer code, might give us more clues. Either brand should be fine. Clarios AGMs over the past couple years come from multiple sources across the world. USA, Mexico, Germany, Korea and China. East Penn are all made in the USA.

I have Clarios from Germany and Korea and work fine.

When I worked at the construction company they used a local battery mart. Their batteries gave us so much trouble that we switched to oRiley's batteries.... Those were worse!
Was it an AGM Battery? I'm glad this one has a 48 month warranty!

That looks just like the Motorcraft ones, same handles, so most likely it is a Clarios made one.

I do find it odd how AGMs just fall off a cliff and die out of nowhere. I put a 48H6 from Motorcrasft in my mom's 2014 Fusion becasue the factory size 99RT4 battery was starting to crank slow and I didn't want "THAT" phone call. A few months ago we went to take it to get dinner and the car wouldn't crank, totally dead. It had been cranking slightly slower, but nothing crazy. I think I had noticed the easy entry seat motor was a bit more labored. Anyway, we audibled and took the Super Duty to dinner and I stopped by work and grabbed a new battery and billed myself for it. I do find it funny how Ford wants you to take out half the tool box contents to change a battery.

Same symptoms here. I was putting it off until the next OCI but figured, if its starting fine, can't be so bad right? Well it's my first AGM vehicle and now I know, change those batteries at the first sign of hesitation.

Fortunately all I needed was a philips head to take out the air intake clips and the rest just popped out:

You should be good. I would watch it to make sure it makes it through the 48 month warranty which is good. I bought a cheapie battery for my cavalier with a 12 month warranty and it wouldn't take a charge or start after 10 months. Thankfully a jump pack got just enough juice in it for me to get it to the parts store. They swapped it out but said the new battery only had two months of warranty as the original died at 10 months. I thought the replacement would have been a reset to 1 year.

Most of the O'Reilly SuperStart batteries are manufactured by East Penn. Other than the red plastic +terminal cover, it looks the same as the East Penn manufactured Duracell AGM H-6 battery at Sam's Club.
H6 follows a DIN standard. All H6 will look virtually identical if they are following the DIN requirements. Visual cues are not really relevant to DIN series batteries for brand identification. You need to check the product code or country of origin. When I searched online it was claimed O'Reilly AGMs can vary on manufacturer, based on location...can be Clarios or East Penn.

Here is a Chinese made H6 sold on Amazon...compare any H6, they all look similar accept for case color, or labeling. They might have a very minor difference in the handles or something.

That is why the previous Costco (not the current) warranty was great. They gave you a 100% refund, then you bought a new battery which started a new warranty. The only issue is the new battery often had a higher price.

Funny is Transits that want you to move a power (Bueller, Bueller?) seat to access a dead battery. Things that make you go HMMMM......
So many people with Transits get mad at us in parts because management doesn't want us installing batteries in anything. They want them all going to service, which makes sense since that is why we have technicians. We had a little tool cart with some basic tools that I would let people borrow, but we had to hide it because it was abused. Now they only let us to wiper blades and simple taillamp bulbs at our discretion.

I'm ashamed to say I've had certain wipers and bulbs kick my butt! I'm always victorious but sometimes the amount of time it takes me is staggering.

I hardly ever sell the Motorcraft premium flat blades because you have to piece together the adapters to make it work. I was on the struggle bus Saturday when a lady came in with a Jeep Renegade needing a wiper and key battery and I have to figure it out 2 minutes before lunch. She bought it from us a month or so ago and one of the wipers we did on the UCI fell off the arm

Well now I need a group 24 for my 05 Scion tC.

Went to Costco, got $109 back for the battery, less than 3 years old. They didn't have any in stock so time to visit Walmart!

So why did closing the hood and waiting a minute allow the vehicle to fire right up?
