I have six quart boxes(box 'o oil) of Havoiline with only a 5 quart crankcase capacity, anyone use something fancy or not so fancy to stockpile excess oil outside of OEM containers?

I always have on hand a few clean 1 quart oil bottles. I'd pour it off into one of them and label it accordingly.

+1.. just buy a 1ltr water bottle, drink said contents, allow to thoroughly dry then add oil. Easy peazy, lemon squeezy!...

Seems like I'm always transferring oil into the quart containers. My car holds 4.5 quarts so I always dump a half quart out of the jug to make it easier for my mech and then use it up in one of my snowblowers. Got tired of funnels falling out or tipping over so I purchase these and they work really well.

What I found out is not to screw them on tight so the can breath thru the threads a little yet not fall off.

This 👇fits nicely on a qt bottle and it's like $4 on Amazon. You could also use a screw on hand pump to xfer oil..most come with a length of tubing.

I mostly buy oil in gallon or 5-qt containers and pour it into a qt bottle for measurement purposes. Its a bad idea to transfer oil to other containers due to contamination and/or labeling considerations. I may pour any remaining oil into a qt bottle and dispose of larger bottles. Mostly I use HDEO and only have one grade on hand. Just picked up a Ford and will have 5w20 following the same considerations.

The containers I buy hold a bit more than the sump in my Honda. I buy several containers (of the same brand) at once and for the first change pour out only as much as I need. I keep the excess in its original container. I use that left over bit first at the next change. The left over oil grows each time I change the oil, and eventually there's enough for a "free change".

Yeah man, If I stick with the 6 qt boxed Havoline....I'll have that "bonus" oil change quickly between the two cars, Maybe I'll just buy a basket and put all my 1 quart containing plastic bags in, ditching the cardboard box into the recycling bin.

That's exactly what I've been doing, except that I buy only one new 5-quart bottle between changes. I haven't yet reached my first "free change" in this car, accumulating leftovers at the rate of 5.0-4.4= 0.6 quarts per change. That should take 8 changes, because 70.6<8.

I gain either 1.0 liter or 0.8 liters/change depending on whether I change the filter. It takes a while (I need 4 liters or 4.2 liters for a change) but the "free one" still feels pretty good.

The method I described above is really easy and avoids oil sitting in partial containers for long periods as well.

Only down side is you should use the same oil for multiple consecutive changes (about 5 in my case) to get a container of pure left overs, though I don't really think mixing oils matters very much.

I have done all the above (put "extra" in a single qt bottle, "saved" the leftover in original container and use it first next change, and put it in a larger container and made a "frank-n-brew").
I will either use it for another change or use it as top off oil since I service several vehicles that use oil.

Yep, the original container works fine… No need to go to any heroics to store your extra oil...

Lol OP was asking where we store our oil, not what store we buy it from... unless you store secret stashes of oil underneath all the tomatoes there without having to walk all the way to the oil isle on your next visit.
