My local collection center takes used oil and oil filters. I'm not sure what they do with the filters but I'm sure they would be confused (upset) to see a roll of black TP.
I only ask because I'm still undecided about using a TP or OilGuard.
I live in the country, and a heavy wooded lot. So I am always collecting limbs blown down. I use the old elements to start the fire. And it burns for a long time. The Oil Guard will have an element like the TP to dispose of, because it is a wound cotton ball. So either one will have to be disposed of the same way.
A method that I used many years ago in another State, was to put the used element in a coffee can and took them to the city incinerator. No longer in use.
I'm a cabinetmaker by trade so I always have lots of sawdust around. I put the filter in a plastic trash bag when I empty my saw or vac. Wrap it up and in the trash it goes. I don't feel its any worse than a spin on filter.
