What did your last front tire cost? OUCH

Nope. My policy states nothing of the sort, anymore than it states I cant use ape hangers or orange paint. And again, unapproved... Sow me where anything says its 'unapproved' for anything.
Ins cos can't dictate what type of tires to use on a bike...

Ask your insurance agent... they might say CT??? no problem... that is until they have to pay out a claim... then its sorry client our lawyers advise its illegal to have run a unapproved CT in the first place... now you accept the risk of loosing home and property... your insurance company can not protect you... you end up being liable for all damages...
Ins cos are nothing more than legal ripoff artists...if I ever have a need to make a claim on my bike, it will have a MT installed when the adjuster comes to look at it...

What gets me about these armchair engineers is how they completely ignore the actual results of thousands of riders who run CTs, and swear they will never go back to a MT. If CTs are as bad as these theorists claim they are, then why do so many people keep running them? Did you notice how there was nothing but crickets in here when I said there are far more MT failures than CT failures? The armchair engineers don't want to acknowledge actual results because they disprove their theories. Of course they dig up some supposed CT failure on some guy's Gold Wing, but they refuse to acknowledge the countless number of guys who love CTs. You guys can continue to push your theories, but actual results trump theories...

I don't know about you, but I usually have better things to do with my time, besides posting on an internet chat board. So here's my reply.

What are we calling a tire failure?

1) A tire that becomes unseated from the wheel bead? That's pretty much a car tire mounted on a M/C wheel issue. Since the bead profiles of each do not match. Hence the warnings from the manufacturers, and agencies tasked with trying to protect consumers from themselves.

2) An object penetrating the casing and causing a flat? I'd say that happens more frequently with M/C tires. Why? Only because the vast majority of motorcyclists are not so desperately cheap, that they'll compromise handling and safety to save a buck. Ie: 99%? of motorcycles are running M/C tires, so naturally you'll see more failures such as punctures of M/C tires, for that reason alone.

But they can and do deny coverage if improper equipment is in use...

I called the family member who had the crashed Car-tire shod Goldwing in his shop. The couples insurance company denied coverage, as the crash was directly caused by the tire that was never designed to be fitted to the wheel...

I... think... I'm... going... to... start... adding... three... ... after... every... sentence... it's... kind... of... fun...

Again, you go back to the one and only incident of a CT failing on a bike, and you completely ignore the thousands of people who use CTs, and have said they will continue to do so, which they wouldn't be doing if any of the things you claim are wrong about CTs were true. THEY ARE PROVING YOUR THEORIES WRONG, but please continue on...

Bead failures when using CTs on a MC rim are more rare than unicorns. If not, post up some facts, other than the one and only failure you've already posted...

This logic is not only irrefutable but also a real eye opener. How foolish we’ve been with our dogmatic insistence on fitting motorcycle tires on motorcycles. I did a little digging and did you know that last year there were no CT failures on jet planes? ZERO. Remember the Concorde with the blowout on takeoff? So avoidable. And think of the savings! I’m going into the garage now to see if the tires on my wheelbarrow will fit the Vespa. Man, this is opening up all kinds of possibilities!

I just can see it now... "grampi, you are under arrest for the crime of fraud, come out with your hands up...

There are literally tens of thousands of riders these days who run car tires on their bikes. If they were actually as bad as these armchair engineers claim they are, one could do a quick internet search and find all sorts of info about these failures. There is no such info. Do you know why?

And just how are they going to prove fraud?

Proof is free for all to copy when a client unwittingly self incriminates themselves on open media... like confess I'll just tamper with evidence to fool the adjuster...

"if I ever have a need to make a claim on my bike, it will have a MT installed when the adjuster comes to look at it... "

If you volunteer a self-incriminating statement without being pressured to do so, it could lead to criminal prosecution—even though you've not been informed of your Miranda Rights. You've indirectly made a confession and that statement is admissible in court.
