That's more or less my experience now. It's like pulling teeth to get my dad to let me change his oil. He let's me, but wants his trusty friends down at Tires Plus to change the oil for him if I'm not around RIGHT AT 3k miles...come on!

I remember my Pop using Sears Oil and filters. We also used plenty of canvas drop cloths and old blankets on the cold ground. Sears was the go to store....back in the day for all your automotive needs. I remember that he liked to use the heavy weight oil like 20W-50. He thought heavy oil was better for lubrication. It all went into his 1965 Buick Wildcat. His advice was always change the filter when you change the oil. I remember that his oil filter wrench was a steel pipe chain wrench....something that I still use today...on occasion. I remember making sure to add lots of grease to the front end, universal joint, steering column etc. His philosophy was....an oil change is not complete without a good grease job. I still remember that old sears grease gun with the replacement cartridges. We use to jack up the car using the car jack and use heavy wooden milk crates or steel milk crates instead of jack stands. I don't remember ever seeing jack stands used. I know that he could dispose of the used oil at work.

My dad always told me: Slughsh fer namm filpers zhjon anyway! And then punched my mom in the face. But never did oil changes himself...not even sober.

My dad worked for Lubrizol, but went to quicky lubes to have his oil changed, go figure. Maybe he just didnt want to deal with oil on his own time? Ohh uhh stay on the topic of the tread, I don't recall him ever saying anything about oil filters...
