What did the Mobil tech mean when he said

that synthetic oil goes to places in your engine that conventional oils don't? I called Mobil tech at the toll free # the other week to ask a couple questions about their HM syn oil. During part of our conversation he was saying how synthetic oil will get to more places that conventionals dont get too. Can someone explain to me if this is ____ or how and why conventionals don't get to more places after they are up to operationg temps? I can understand the syns flow faster and get there quicker, but I'm not understanding this other point I'm asking about.

Mobil 1 contains smart molecules; meaning they are able to rearrange themselves into any shape necessary for squeezing themselves into the smallest of areas. If a mouse can poke his head through a hole, he can then squeeze the rest of his body through it.

Lonnie, another valid point.

Although my current Group III oil has gone places even M1 0W-40 never made it to.

I think that he was trying to say (in a very poor way) that the uniform size of synthetic oil molecules allow them to flow more freely (thus reaching places quickly that dinos can't) particularly on cold starts.

SFCP, the Mobil tech was spouting marketing. It's purely false.

Of course, if you switch to Mobil1 and you spring a leak that ends up on the garage floor, then the tech would be correct.

A motor, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the HM 10w30. It's 5,000 mile mission: To explore strange new internals. To seek out old sludge and remove it from your motor. To boldly go where no oil has gone before.

Well, I guess that means the other oils have the dumb molecules that don't know where to go!

I like that idea. Imagine an oil ad, with a family about to go on a long road trip, but they're not sure if their oil can make it past 3000 miles...

I only use synthetics because I don't like changing oil. It's just that calling tech lines of many oil companies is a joke. The customer service people are not scientifically trained nor given juicy secrets about the products by the technical departments.

Pennzoil Platinum is a great synthetic but those Adaptive Molecules ads are a crock of hot steaming poo. They say the molecules break up when pressure it applied and reform later. That's the worst thing that they could possibly do. When pressure is applied you want the film to be strong, not run away like scared little girls!
