What Dexron III fluid do you recommed?

That was not my experience using Mobil 1 ATF in this truck back when it was fairly new. Thanks for the recommendation though.

229,
Are you saying that the Dexron VI from the dealer is a better quality than the others on the market? I think I have read that the GM Dexron VI is a semi-synthetic. Is this true? Thanks.

I too like MaxLife ATF and am running it in three vehicles, two of them Honda's. And a few months back it was a really good value at ~$18 a gallon at Advance. Recently though it went to $23 a gallon, not quite as good a value. Because of Hondas less than stellar trans rep I'll continue to use ML. That said, for the GM's in your profile, I'd likely use whatever 'majors' Dex/Merc you can find for the lowest price.

I will have to check and see what is around since the only thing I have used recently is the Supertech brand.

Walmarts in my area have the Maxlife Dex/Merc for $16/gallon. They also have the regular Valvoline Dex/Merc in gallons but I don't recall the price.

I've never seen the max life at wal mart, but it is like $17 at az and aap, so if a coupon can be used, it's a better deal anyway.

Some Wally's do carry Maxlife gallon jugs, but it is very limited store distribution. Awhile back Wally online had a nice offer of ~$17/gal jug ML with $1 ship to your door. Now it says not available online.

As said above, Maxlife is no longer ~$18/gal at Advance, in this area it's gone up to $23/gal recently, and no AAP online codes allowed on it for quite some time now. I suspect if the AAP ML price hasn't already been raised nationwide, it will be shortly. AZ doesn't carry ML either in store or online in this area.

If you are looking at the Red Line ATF products and are shy about Dex VI, then I would steer you to the Red Line D4 instead of their D6.
However, BOTH are expensive, though very good.
I am running the D4 in a Dex III application (Toyota) myself.

It is my understanding that the Mobil 1 ATF has changed in formulation from "Years ago".
I know that it used to be recommended for Mercon applications and NOT Mercon V applications.
Now, it is recommended for both (Mercon V is a tougher specification).
ALSO, viewing the Mobil 1 Website, they list separate Mobil 1 ATF and Mobil 1 Dexron VI fluids.

Also would recommend it. Worked great in my late Gf's 2005 Mercury Mariner V-6. Made the shifts more positive without adding harshness.

Nice, I'd be all over ML at that price, and a no brainer recommendation to the OP too. Unfortunately, zero availabilty at AZ's in this region of the country. It would likely be the one item I'd go to AZ for.
