A friend of mine had one. It would get up and go. One night we passed a Ford (can't remember the model) that another friend had. The ford had some work done to it. A few seconds later that Ford passed us doing crazy insane speed. We tried catching up but it was like a biplane trying to catch an SR-21.

Particular cars? Lincoln Mark VIII, 1990-93 Honda Accord, H/W-Body GM cars with the 3800 powerplant, 92-97 Ford full-size trucks, body-on-frame Ford Explorers. I could probably think of a dozen others but those ones come to mind.

I hate to be the old man yelling at clouds, but the majority of these new crossover SUVs seem so unstylish and disposable to me. And they make up most of the new car market. Sad to say, I think the American-branded ones, and even the European ones are the worst offenders.
 
Recently re-found and re-read a story in one of my older Hemming's magazines about what is nicknamed The Olds Fournado. The car happens to be an Oldsmobile 442 that one of the 70s era Olds Corp executives had special made for himself. They took a nicely optioned Olds 442 that was being built and (modified of course) the frame and front fenders , a few other things too. Factory installed the front wheel drive , including... the fwd suspension , side mounted engine and transaxle from the Olds Tornado set ups. One of the biggest Olds 442 collector / restorers finally purchased it and did a 100% resto back to exact factory build. I know I have photos of this amazing car in my computer someplace. It is a beauty finished in the Olds Gold factory paint. Will share photos along with online address to the stories about it once I locate it. Someone (car lovers) :DI am sure will enjoy seeing it and reading the story.

Reliable diesel 3/4 / 1 ton truck engines, 300hp and 500 lb/ft is fine. Just make em last forever and not cost a lot to maintain.

P.S. Oldest son had a Mazda 6 "touring model" (did the Six become the 626?) after he started out with the smaller Mazda 3 ? He loved the car (Model 6). I rode with him in it on an over 500mi trip one summer and was very comfortable in it.
No the 626 transformed into the 6 in 2002.
 
I have seen two stories in the last week to ten days with some amazing photos. Two fellows, (obviously with money to burn) had purchased each , their own , old , tired and worn out (yet totally rust free So Cal) Dodge Chargers. Each guy not only wanted the classic beauties from the 70s but they also wanted to use them and not become "trailer/show queens." They paid restoration experts to totally rebuild them with one exception. They paid to have those cars turned into modern day , working daily driving vehicles. Equipped with the low mile Hemi engines they each aquired from newer wrecked Dodge Challengers. Installed with new EFI powered fuel systems , each have turned out looking 1970 show room new that conceal everything new/updated to make them each "turn key" drivers they can take anywhere. Found one of them. The other was painted in a long time popular Mopar dark green paint job.

Another beauty and beast all at the same time. I do not know how somone can drive these machines without getting into trouble smashing down the gas pedal at least from time to time. One thing for sure. You own something like this, you best make certain
the tires are "high speed" rated so you don't end up meeting St Peter a bit sooner than expected! ;)

I really kick myself that I never bought one when I had the chance many times!!
Yes I think the V6 is a great compromise between 4 and 8 cylinders for good power and reasonable efficiency. My 2014 Accord Coupe V6 manual is fun to zoom around in, but it does not qualify as being small. Handles poorly with that big engine out in front of the car.
