What brand and why?

right now I use castrol gtx 5W30 it will change with the next oil change. Nothing against this oil I really like it I just want to try something different next time.

I worry more about the viscosity and general type of oil (full synthetic, pseudosynthetic Group III, dino, blend, etc.) than about the specific brand. Having said that, I consistently put Pennzoil 5W-30 dino in the Dodge 2.4L and Mobil 1 0W-40 in the VW Passat 1.8T. In the latter case, I would feel safe with any VW502.00 spec oil, and several that have not been officially certified to 502.00, such as Mobil 1 5W-40.

I'm using M1 products mostly because I got it on sale last year. I have a few quarts of the Havoline Syn from Autozone $2 clearance last year. I'd use pretty much any syn if the price is right.

Right now the car is running Motomaster Supreme 10W30 as it was on sale for $1.49/L. Due to a head gasket replacement I'll drain it out earlier than normal and get it sampled to start trending data on the coolant/potassium/sodium levels.

Pennzoil for several reasons.

1. My Dad used it.
2. I started using it in 1964 in my own cars.
3. I went to work for them and retired after 25 years of service last October.

It's never let me down. I now us the Platinum 5W20 in all 3 of my Hondas.

I have been running Shell Formula 5W20 for three years with no problems and better UOA than with a
syn blend i was using.

Just switched from Syntec to MC 5w-20.

Got oil changed yesterday at the dealership and they beat the price of all the local quickie lubes.

Pennzoil is always my first choice.

Pennzoil was the first choice of my dad.

Pennzoil has always given me great service in my engines.

In my current economic state (stay at home wife,2 small kids, modest income) I am forced to purchase whatever name brand is on sale. I have two cases of trop artic syn blend purchased at dollar tree. It seems to be working just fine but I prefer the yellow bottle.

I started with Kendall, then Pennzoil, Valvoline, Castrol, back to V., then Mobil, and now am using and will stay with Havoline. All of the stuff I've read on this site about Havoline is why I changed my mind against going around in circles trying to FIND Mobil's Clean 5000. Even at Family Dollar or Rite Aid I can buy a quart of 5w30 Havoline.

I trust the following brands of synthetic: Mobil-1, Amsoil, Redline, Fuchs,Motul,Penrite and Synergen. I use them because I trust them to give me what I am paying for.

I am currently useing Rotella-T Synthetic even though it is a GIII based on price alone. I knew what I was getting though going in to it. Most think it is a true synthetic and it is not. It is a good deal though at $12-$14 a gallon at most Walmarts.

If we are talking about dino then the list is as follows: Havoline,Chevrone Supreme, Mobil 7500, Schaffers, and Cenpeco

Johnny: I am also a Pennzoil fan. I have seen some great UOA's of Pennzoil dino. In what ways do you think Platinum will outperform regular Pennzoil dino 5w20? I'm just wondering if the extra cost is worth it for 5 or 6K OCI's?

I am a fan of inexpensive yet quality dino oils.

Exxon Superflo
Havoline/Chevron
TropArtic
Shell Formula

All are excellent oils that can be bought at discount prices.
