I used to love Timberland when they were made in the U.S. but since they sold out to the hip pop crowd and let quality dive, I have turned to sneakers until recent requirement at work. I tried a pair of Red Wing roper work boots with steel toes and am sold on the quality and comfort. I didn't like any of the lace-up Red Wing because they are not that comfortable right out the box. Roper boots are excellent and great for all day comfort.

For non-working, I like Tony Lama cowboy and not a big fan of Laredo that I have. I am saving money for a Luchese and possibly another Red Wing but will try to get a lace-up this time.

Timberland, I get excellent discounts there threw a relative who's works at the headquarters in my town.

For work I have John Bull lace up - I don't like slip ons as they give me calluses. These are supplied by work,so I don't have much to choose from.My own work boots are Diadora.

For my bikes I have some Chinese Johnny Rebs, just as well I don't have the real thing as I don't like them - they are good for short rides or if I need to take my boots off,as they are easy to get out of.My other bike boots are 8in Matterhorn lace ups, with kevlar this,Gortex that, and Thinsulate the other. For trials and other off road or gravel road riding I have Gaerne Balance trials boot.

These are about the best I've had in ages.

Spent a couple hours walking over the ash stockpiles and stuff today, and they were quite secure with good ankle support (necessary for me).

The kevlar stitching is bright yellow, which annoys me. Parade Gloss fixes that, and the rubber toe cap loses shine (Parade Gloss) pretty quickly.

Break in is about a week, and I get about 8-10 months from a pair...versus 6 months for the Dunlops we used to get.

I've been wearing Red Wings work shoes since 1988. Lace-up, mid height.

This most recent pair, however, was listed as "discontinued" when I bought them; my pair came from another store or warehouse somewhere. I hope I can get something similar next time without having to get a Chinese product.

Where to get good boots from White Sand, NM to El Paso, TX? I will be down there in June and want to get a good pair.

I wear Georgia 8" wedge sole boots. They are some of the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. The leather feels like it's broken in right out of the box but after a year of wearing them on construction sites and in a welding shop I can say they are durable.

I just ordered the 8" Converse stealth. Really lightweight, are safety toe and won't set off a metal detector.

I have 2 pairs of riding boots that were given to me by my BMW dealer when I bought my bike 10yrs ago. The brand is Double-H. They are outstanding!

I have had three pairs of Red Wing hikers with steel toes over the last 5-6 years. They are an excellent day to day boot. Durability is great, and once broken in, they are very comfortable. Break in can be a bit hard on the feet though.

My next pair will most likely be Red Wings as well.

Timberland steele towed, lace up, "oil resistant", best boots ive ever had, but im not into slip ons, i get them at a workwear place, size 14 (cant find that just anywhere)

I have two of these: Wolverine 1000 Mile.

In case you can't tell, they're fantastic boots and I wear them as much as possible. Fit, finish, and style are second to none. Beautiful Horween leather with good welted construction. They even come with a nice care kit (horsehair brush, polishing cloth, conditioner, and liquid polish).

Worth every penny; they can often pass as casual dress shoes. I wore them to church on Christmas Eve and my mother thought they were my new dress shoes. I receive tons of compliments on them, even from women.

Article about them

I may eventually grab the Red Wing Gentleman Travelers in cordovan. Gotta let the checkbook breathe a bit after the tan Addison boots come in.
