What are your thoughts on tattoos?

It depends. Some people get cheap tattoos from bad artists that look bad.

When you pay enough for a good, well thoughout tattoo with a reputable artist, they can be beautiful pieces of art.

Most of the time they don’t look all that great IMO but I’ve seen some that look wonderful.

I don’t have any, don’t have any desire to get one currently, but maybe one day I’ll get one. It’ll be where no one can see it, where I can wear a short sleeve shirt and it won’t be visible.

Then there's the ones on wimmen's chests that go out of sight...what's the point of that?

I think most people love to talk about their tats if you show interest. They might tell you one was a mistake and one is in memory of someone etc...

I don't care if others have tattoos, but i have none, never wanted one. I do plan to get one at age 88-89.

DNR tattooed on my xiphoid process.

Most folks I know are more than willing to answer questions to satisfy anyone’s curiosity. I like the opportunity to do so. I’ve met quite a few very nice people over the years who sparked up a conversation with me by asking about my tattoos.

Holy [censored] the assumptions and biases are running wild in this thread! I wonder what the age group is for replies, I bet we could correlate that to opinions on tattoos

Don't care for them at all. Everyone has their own choice. But I have never seen a tattoo as an improvement on the beauty of the human body. They look dirty to me. Not dirty as in immoral. But dirty, as in they need to be scrubbed off the same way dirt from the garden would be washed off so you can see the beautiful skin underneath.

I am very glad that none of my children or their spouses have tattoos.

I remember when I was a 12 or 13 year old Boy Scout, an Assistant Scout Master for our troop had tattoos left over from his Navy days. On one occasion we young boys were admiring one of his tattoos. I can't remember his words, but between what he said and how he reacted, it quickly became clear that he was embarrassed by the tattoos and wished they weren't there. It was something left over from the follies of his youth, but tattoo removal was not available back then.

That experience has stuck with me my entire life, and I often wonder how many of today's youth will end up regretting tattoos when they mature. I had an employee that worked for me that did. He finally saved up the money to have them removed. It was expensive and painful, but it was important to him.

Exactly! I've been saying that for many, many years.

Many people like to think that their tattoo is unique because they designed it. But really, the huge majority of tattoos fit in a few categories. Probably #1 is serpents and dragons. Really, how much different are all of them? Scales. Long tails. Tongues. Perhaps flames. Several years ago the trend was an oriental word or saying.

This is an open discussion on tattoos. The OP knew perfectly well that there would be many viewpoints. By far, most have expressed their viewpoint very respectfully.

I'm guessing from your reaction that you love tattoos, and would even go so far as to say that you are offended by those that don't like your tattoos. Instead of getting vulgar and accusing of others that don't share your viewpoint, why don't you more respectfully share it.

No tats for me or my wife. We cannot think of anything we want permanently on our bodies. Plus in 15-20 years they will just look like an ink blob and be illegible.

I don't get it. What do you do when you are old? Don't they have enough awareness to recognize it as a fad?

What if all those women in the 60s had go-go boots surgically attached to their legs?

That's what I like a true independent thinkers. None of my drunk friends have been able to talk me into tattoos either!

I've got friends who had tattoos in their 20's, they still look good in their 60's.

My ex sister in law had some really bad ink tattoos, these were really bad homemade ones using fountain pen ink on her shoulders and arms. Nasty institution ones. Made no difference to us, but later in life she had some good jobs, and had to keep them covered, pity as she was good looking. She did have them removed later...I can see where they were, not so obvious if you just met her.

Au Natural for me. I dont have a need to imprint things on my body. I can believe in things without having to tat my body. Nothing against those who do. Its just not my thing/style.

That's about perfect. I have seen some lovely mostly discreetly located tattoos on a few people that can carry it off. Sadly the vast majority of folks with garish visible tats often seem to be insecure folks trying to fix something missing about their inside self by putting permanent ink pictures on their outside self.

No, not my thing. Even in the Marine Corps infantry I never saw a need to get a tat, like everyone else.
It seems to this day I associate tattoos with poor decision making skills. Internally I treat those folks with the appropriate apprehension and caution when responsibility and decision making tasks need assigned.

Both bought AND earned.

That woman needs some serious help from a mental health professional.

Why ?

Scarification new to you ?

I couldn't do it, but have respect for those that do.

Why tarnish it? I'm sure it all starts because these girls have daddy issues are are "rebelling" but most of them don't know what they're rebelling against,or they saw it on MTV or something.

What's even worse is seeing all that on a woman my age (48).

You should probably see a qualified mental health professional to deal with your issues.
