What are you working on today?

Where do you find the time??? You get into some of the coolest stuff!!
I don't find the time too well :ROFLMAO: I have no normal hobbies besides playing/working with my trucks/tractors/heavy equipment and most days I go from sunrise to past dark. Today I hauled 11 loads of rock, came home and messed with this burnt loader and now I'm sending info to my accountant, paying bills and updating Quickbooks and will probably be behind the computer until 11pm. If i was starting elementary school all over again I'm sure I'd be on some kind of spectrum

Had a few spare minutes this morning so I finished up the last exhaust repair on Project Volvo. I'm pretty impressed with this little guy, I think this is the first "Pro Parts Sweden" part I've seen that was actually MADE in Sweden. It's a huge time saver having these hanger repair kits available, as the rear muffler alone is almost $200.

BMW X3 N52 coolant expansion tank replacement. Just a routine pull the shroud and the fan, disconnect the hoses, pull the bottle, replace the transmission cooler thermostat, install new bottle, hook it all up.

Greasing the upper and lower ball joints in my '08 Ranger. I ran out of Lucas Red 'n Tacky after finishing one side, so I had to switch to Lucas Xtra Heavy Duty (green) for the other side. I figure the joints will still appreciate the new grease.

Be sure to use Green on the right, Red on the left. We don't want the FAA or Harbor Police pulling you over.

Got our 2020 Ram booked in with a local mechanic. Ill pick up a new hub and take it over. If it needs to be torched off, well thats life.

Started maintenance on my 2021 Grand Cherokee L. Rear diff oil took 10 minutes to change from set up to cleanup. The front.... well, took a while to remove that flimsy plastic carpet whatever skid shield. Then a while manipulate myself to fill the thing and a while to wipe down the mess. Ill do the TC later today or tomorrow and that will be good for now.

Next set is brake service.

You're gonna trim all that excess thread, right? RigHT?!? ;)

I like those finesse-with-brute-force projects. Take a vacation to Colorado and we'll get 'er done!

@D60 as I like to say, sometimes things get dynamic. The parts guy has a spare knuckle if I need. I like that because once the cutting starts, sometimes you have to prove a point and assert some dominance.

Replaced the bottle and transmission cooler thermostat on a BMW X3 w/N52,
Here's a pic after removing everything and waiting to be cleaned up before installing the new parts. Most of the stuff removed is easy either being snap-in or simple torx screws. Even the fan shroud is only held in by one screw and a plastic trim rivet.
You can see dark splotches on the right hoses/compartment where coolant sprayed out of the crack in old coolant bottle.

When I had my old X5 (2003 with M54) I have to say, I was so stinking GOOD at working on that car. But only because I got more practice working on it than any other car I've ever owned.

After about 5 years of ownership, if I had to take the shroud and fan off, I would actually just leave it off if it was after September or so, because I knew I'd be back in there to put it on again before it got warm enough to need it.

Our 2008 has actually been pretty good. This is only the 2nd bottle in all those years. They're easy, but there's a ton of stuff to remove to get to where you need to be.

I know, I'm not terribly happy with the way that part looks. I may try flipping the whole clamp 180 degrees, I don't see why it wouldn't work both ways. If not, off with their heads!

2024 Tacoma. Replaced 3/4” rear spring spacers with full 1” to compensate for bed rack, bumper and mods. Restored factory rake. All things considered, the suspension on this truck is pretty easy to work on. Like that a lot. I got the rake right because the oem headlight aim is now where it should be. Nice.

Checked the oil. 1.25 full quart over full. Oh no. Smells like gas. Suctioned out 3 quarts, replaced with 2, including a 30 weight instead of 20, made sure it’s right on the full line. Guess I have to start monitoring this. 3,000 miles on this OC. I don’t recall it ever having done this before, but this has been my first full winter with it. I checked because it’s had a different sound/feel at the seat cushion these last 2 weeks. This truck for all intents and purposes is well-built, but if I knew all this would happen going in, im not sure I would buy it again, not for what I paid. It’s a darn good serviceable and commutable vehicle, and with all these mods it’s getting 22mpg, which is awesome, but I feel at this point between the low ATF from factory, mystery stall on the interstate, buggy dashboard and now this - I’m debugging a product a paid a premium amount for in trust of reliability. Still not a bad vehicle by any means, but the value isnt there for what I spent.

Will start checking/changing oil frequently. I’m not sure if any ever truly are, but my concept of “forever car,” is shattered with this one. Just, one day at a time, use amd enjoy.

Worked on and looked over the borrowed truck. Moved the trailer wiring from the bed to the bumper. Not sure why it didn’t have a factory connection, just left it as is for now but taped it back up since all the lights worked. Thinking what I was feeling taking off/stopping was the spare tire moving, the rub marks had polished the metal. Took it down and cleaned all the mud off and aired it up, tight now.

Had a Verizon gps tracker which got deleted. The shut down relay is still there but didn’t want to tear the dash apart, think it just grounds something from the ECU. Other than that just cleaned. Alot of dog hair. I was told to just drive it but don’t have that capability lol. If the spare tire fixed that one issue the biggest thing I found was the steering box had alot of play, those are expensive!

Is this for the trailer wiring??

Switched the 4 tires to the Summers for QX60. Inspected brakes, washed the winter alloys and put away. I will purchase 4 new winter tires before November because the current Conti snows are 5 seasons old and at times this past winter the they told me they were almost dead.
