What are you working on today?

Made some progress on the Hemi.....
*Both heads are done...Broken bolt extracted, Light lap on the valves, new seals & some Mopar SRT/392 valve springs
*Block honed, cleaned, painted
*Rod & Mains measured out good, Running more durable Clevite H series tri-metal inserts instead of bi-metal silicone aluminum that came stock
*Cam installed.....5150 billet from TSP, Stock profile, MDS delete.

Nothing crazy. Had the wild temperature swing come though. -47c windchills the other day and now it's melting. So fired up the old 3500 and i to town to try and rinse off all the salt. She's good to sit stagnant for another few weeks.....

Don't know how y'all deal with extreme cold like that, I've had both the heaters in my shop full blast half the week....Think the wind chill got down to -6°F this week....I'd rather deal with 100°F!

@clinebarger its not so bad when the temperature is consistent. The wild swings are what caused the problems. The wind picks up and absolutely kicks a guy in the face. When it's -40 there is usually no wind and the sun comes out. It's really not bad. A few days ago, I was out snowmobiling in -26 with -37 windchill. Wasn't that bad.

My poor Trailblazer has had to ensure daily driving duties throughout. Past -35 the drivers door has a really hard time latching and even the fan switch didn't work.

Very busy day....

2015 F150 3.5L/6R80, 218,xxx miles....P2111 which was caused by the Throttle Body. Has pretty bad converter shudder....Ran 20 quarts of Maxlife ATF through it, Then changed the fluid & filter. Changed the engine oil.

Got the pistons knocked in the Hemi...No pics.

My 2nd year apprentice got the engine out of a 2014 Nissan Juke 1.6L Turbo.....What a epic mess!!!!
Came in for a check engine light, P0011 (Intake Cam phase issue).
The owner had the Timing Chain replaced, Both VVT Solenoids, Crank Sensor & Intake Cam Sensor between 3 different shops.

Intake Cam was 19-20° advanced....Recommended pulling the engine & verifying the chain installation, She didn't like the labor quote & took it back to the shop that did the timing chain, She brought it back this past Monday saying the shop thinks it's a "computer issue" & the chain was installed correctly.

I demanded half of the labor up front because I've "Been there, Done that" with new customers abandoning throw away cars after agreeing to repairs, Glad I did because it's going to cost a lot more than quoted!!

12 stripped out bolt holes, Belt Tensioner got trashed, Intake Cam Phaser full of RTV, Timing cover has a hole worn through it, Guessing by the original timing chain & was patched with JB Weld.
I can only imagine how much RTV is in the oil pan?
*Intake Cam is 1 tooth out of time.

Priced out installing a used engine with her new timing set & fixing the existing mess, I'll call her Monday as I feel this will get interesting

It's generally possible to heat your work area. We have the technology ;)
Yeah I know but I run to the shop when I get an order, spin it and then ship it so the shop never gets hot enough. I don't lay up there every minute...lol
@KCJeep says I'm cheap....lol

I just got this email from the UK now.. the cold activates me...

Hi Jim
Just to let you know the package arrived safely today. Dealing with you is always a real pleasure. Beautifully made parts, well packaged, and speedily mailed.
Many thanks
Kindest regards

I don't heat my shop unless I'm in there so one thing I had to remember was if the next day was gonna involve acetal/HDPE I'd bring the stock in the house overnight.

Dropped the deck on the John Deere Z535M, flipped it on its side and scraped off the old (minimal) caked on grass underneath. Replaced blades with new OEM. Replaced air filter with OEM. Cleaned, dried and reinstalled green foam air pre-filter. Didn't feel like changing the oil today, will do that another weekend soon.

Discovered something interesting using my new Makita 1/2" impact wrench to remove the old mower blades. If I am wearing work gloves, it is very easy to switch from loosening to tightening by accident when putting my right index finger on the trigger. I'll have to be aware of that in the future.

Third time's a charm on a working key for my neighbors '17 Spark LS
It's of dubious value, because the base LS only has a power actuator on the driver's door
He also loses them faster than I can remake them, and the car (used) only came with one key 🙄
I guess it's easier 🤷‍♂️
This car spit out two different eBay Chinese special remotes, turns out late model GMs are fussy about OEM keys
The immobilizer side worked ok, but the keyless side didn't
Keep your GM car all GM 😤 (rebadged Daewoos included)

I swapped a variable intermittent wiper switch from a Rav4/Prius into the xB
I didn't care for the limited selection of wiper speeds
For $20, an easy plug & play upgrade

Finally I was tinkering with a coworkers '14 Dodge Grand Caravan
I've heard reports of people using AlfaOBD to enable the factory remote start
I can confirm, it does work
Enable remote start, enable the hood switch, pull the PIN, resync the WCM/WIN, drive over 35mph
If you don't have a hood switch, find the connector hiding under the TIPM and either add the switch, or use a 1MΩ resistor to bypass it

Finish the job by ordering the appropriate Fobik membrane that meets your vehicles option content (+ remote start button) and swap it in
That's it, remote start for under $10 💪
This works on many FCA products from ~2008+, with minor variations on the procedure
No reason not to have remote start IMO 🤔

Yesterday on a neighbor's grandmother's 06 Lincoln Town Car
Replaced spark plugs, ignition coils, air filter, fuel filter, rotated tires, inspected brakes, changed oil.

Oil change day on the 18 rogue that my son drives exactly 6 miles round trip to school and back everyday. It’s a little early but, man is the oil nasty. I haven’t decided if I’m going to use torco, Mobil EP, hpl, schaeffers or just some tried and true Valvoline synthetic. It has Schaeffers in it right now and may have used a few ounce which is very out of character for this engine. Of course he lets it idle like a New York City cabbie.
