What are you working on today?

You said it's leaking.
I mislead
Yes, it seems to leak half a quart over a 5k OCI
I went to the shed for a bottle of that Total clearance oil a lot of us spent 2023 buying, and I'm amazed at how little is left in my stock 🥲
I guess I did more oil change changes and top offs than I thought 🤔

Well ...I'm looking at an '04 Ranger 4x4. Both steering rack bellows are torn. The inner bellow clamps are buried in the front xmember.

I'm debating even mentioning it because it looks like I almost need to pull the whole rack to properly install metal inner clamps. I think I could get zip ties on the inners, but I HATE using zip ties on steering rack boots.

It feels like a waste of labor to move the whole rack just for boots, but a waste of parts to put in a whole new rack (of unk quality) just for boots. I think the smart move is wait until the rack legitimately fails then replace it all. 200k and this might be the original rack
Or look at a different one?

I posted earlier in this thread about successfully disabling TPMS in an '06 Expedition with Forscan.
Not a fan of TPMS, or you just didn't want to spend the money on new sensors?
I agree either way, that era of Ford chime would drive you insane

Unrelated FORScan news, yesterday I used a J2534 pass thru and the paid FORScan beta to reflash a module 👍
Didn't even brick it 🤗

New brakes, rotors, and spark plugs on the wife’s Equinox to replace the 51k mile old stuff from the factory.

New brakes and rotors were CQ Platinum courtesy of AAP @ 80% off

New plugs are NGK Laser Iridium LNAR8B7G.

Old plugs don’t look too bad given the mileage and auto start/stop.

Got my rat sled, Shtty Bill out and running this season. Had to service the clutch and pull the carb for a cleaning. Likely going to have a sore back tomorrow as it got a sizeable shakedown on the trails, hills and flats.

Hardcore tech 2004 Ranger: 3D printed parking brake release lever from ebay. Cool example of the aftermarket and 3D printing guys filling a need. It's a little crude but looks fine and works great!

After (yep I'm so good I can pop a plastic lever onto a steel rod!)

I cranked out a few aluminum trees on the lathe yesterday and dropped them at the neighbors'. This morning the wife called me ecstatic and insisted on sending a picture of how she displayed them.

They could do double-duty as plumb bobs if you were to add a hole in the center of the base.

Cranked out three more today for the owner of the '04 Ranger. It's after Christmas but I give these to clients and say give 'em to your wife because women love them. And I get to stay in the good graces of their wives as the best neighborhood mekanik.

After disabling TPMS in my '07 F150 yesterday I did the wife's '08 today. I converted A6D1 to binary, flipped the 12th digit and back to hex, resulting in A6C1. I wrote that and the nanny is dead!

Disabling TPMS and seat belt chimes....these are a few of my favorite things.....

Back at my friend's shop for some of this week and next week, maybe. Things are kinda slow this time of year.

1991 Ford F-150 5.8 V8
Replaced starter and solenoid (yes both were bad) changed oil

2016 Honda HRV
In the middle of a starter replacement, R&I intake manifold, got fed up with it and called it a day. Finish it tomorrow

Forscan truly is a gift. Wish we had that for more makes and models.
Yeah but the forum is a bit of a feces show. Since you're ONLY Ford I don't understand why it's not broken down by model and generation. Instead it's basically EVERYTHING about Config & Programming in ONE GIANT section.

But a '19 Edge is a wee bit different than an '02 F150. For that matter configuring the '09-14 F150 is way, WAY different than '04-08. So you're left searching for terms Iike "F150" and "TPMS" but you'll get EVERY generation of F150. It's nearly impossible to search a range (eg '04-08) of model years efficiently with keywords.

The xB has been laid up for a few weeks, due to a sticking rear caliper
Took it out of use to save on insurance 💲
I thought it was time to go check on it, I left it parked around the corner
Battery completely dead, and dashboard slightly soggy from windshield leak
Deploy jump pack
1000002635.webp

It's so dead it won't run without the jump pack
Get it home, and on some "proper chargers"
Why do I have a feeling I shouldn't have done what I did, but AFAIK it's done no damage 🤔
Total of 6.5 amps charging is hardly excessive
A few hours later, it's running again
Some judicious smearing of clear silicone at the top of the windshield should keep the water out, time will tell
1000002641.webp

Let's see how we're doing on oil consumption
Current fill is AZ Clearance Edge 10w30, 2,300 miles on it
Most agreeable 👍

2016 Honda HRV finished the starter replacement and changed the oil.

2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 replaced front brake pads and rotors, rotated tires, changed oil

Christmas night we got a lot of rain, a few days later noticed this

1735748966867.webp

The chimney/roof is designed poorly, and water and dirt pools up

1735749002152.webp

Many pinhole rust holes

And this gaping hole...

Bought some of this 4 years ago for this job, finally getting around to it. Used it together with the specified fiberglass mesh

Highly recommended product, it went on great

You probably can't see it, but I trimmed the flashing back at the sides to help it not make a pool in the middle

Marked the patch, to make sure
