Installed my new backlit shift knob in the Regal. Looks almost identical to stock in the light (the numbers are white instead of chrome). I wired it to the factory illumination circuit at the parking brake switch, since the BCM supplies a PWM signal to all the LED backlighting in the car. The knob dims perfectly with the rest of the interior lighting, along with following the theater dimming upon locking. Color me thrilled!

Oh, the cost? How about $15 shipped to my door from AliExpress in just over a week.

If I had a nickel for every time I forgot the shift pattern in the dark...... :D

Seriously it looks cool

Hauled 5 loads of rock this morning and then as I was leaving for work the tones dropped to set up a landing zone for a medical air lift. This was in a very rural area of the county about 10 minutes from my place. Rushed over there and by the time I arrived the helicopter was already circling overhead waiting for a spotter to land. Ended up having to use bolt cutters to gain access to a neighboring field as there was no place else to land. As far as I know everything went well and the patient is going to be fine with a little time.

Mobile call for a no start. 02 Chevy Silverado 1500HD 6.0L wouldn’t start after recharging the replacement battery and alternator replacement.
Had the characteristic starter click (a nice healthy one which means full power going to the starter) so I instantly condemned the starter.

Worked at the home shop yesterday and the rest of the week. Been putting off a customer's engine replacement until warmer weather, well warmer weather is here.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3 Vortec is getting a junkyard replacement. Yesterday I got the engine out and set in the floor. Today I'll be swapping over necessary components and getting it back in the truck. Plan on it being done Friday.

2015 Tundra 5.7:
-oil change
-checked rear axle for additional metal shavings, but all good
-disabled seat belt chime with Carista (per owner's request)

I have to ask before @53' Stude does.
When you get that engine in what oil and filter do you use and since it was used do you tell them to follow up with a second oil change shortly thereafter?

After replacing the starter on the Silverado other day, I was able to bring the truck to my place to address the next complaint, scary steering wobble. I was checking the drag link while I was underneath and saw excessive play in the pitman and idler arms so that was the next thing to address.

It's what CarQuest had.

Replacing the idler arm. I wanted to replace the idler arm bracket but this original part didn't show play or slop.

Instructions say to remove the gearbox from truck to remove the pitman arm. I work around it. Pulled the box enough to slip the puller between the stabilizer bar and crossmember. Then with the Milwaukee M18 1/2" compact impact gun zipped the arm right off.

I recommended replacing the valve cover gaskets to address the caked on dirt on the valve covers.

Passenger side. Not bad for 162,000mi. Any LS guys wanna tell me why this 6.0L has EGR? 317 head casting.

Driver's side. PCV side.

Had the urge to check the air filter. Rubber falling apart from the rusting steel mesh. Looks like a Purolator date code F11P23C3. Not sure what year is the P but it looks like a 10+ year old filter. And the filterminder shows no restriction.
Changed it with a Carquest air filter and also performed TB + MAF cleaning.

Had to use my new M12 underhood light its like my personal sunlight under the hood.

Usually just tell the customer to run it 3K and change it again. He's provided 6 quarts of Castrol GTX High Mileage 10w40 and an AcDelco filter.

Things were going quite smoothly on the 5.3 yesterday until I noticed the front and rear left exhaust manifold bolts were broke off in the head. I'm pretty decent at turning wrenches, but one thing I never got down was broken bolt extraction. I've made things worse in the past, and these days I don't do them. The engine is 90% ready to put over in the truck. I'm waiting on a friend to come by this morning to extract the broken bolts.

I took a few pictures of my progress yesterday morning, didn't take pictures of the broken bolts though.

This past weekend the Kubota got a nice workout unloading a yard of lightning mix soil. After work today adjusted the treadle pedal, neutral return, and parking brake. Ordered a new damper strut as the treadle only returns to neutral about half the time. My confidence is growing with it however, and if the weather holds up it will do a tougher job at the in laws in a few weeks. Need to patch up their driveway again with probably 4-6 yards of crushed concrete.
