What are you working on today?

Wife's '08 F150: replacing the crappy IVD (Icon) rear shocks that came on the truck w Bilstein 4600s. I have little patience for "boutique" products that don't last. I just need good shocks that work and don't leak prematurely.

If anyone wants these, I think they're rebuildable. Free, you pay shipping. Otherwise they're going to the scrapyard.View attachment 194824
Oddly my brother says the exact thing about Bilsteins. He replaced with Kings.

You will like them, use the same on my F150.

Icons are rebuildable but fewer shops seem to do those as compared to kings and fox. I’d expect they also ride like concrete when working compared to the bilsteins.

It’s hard to beat the billies for a daily driver, we just put a set of rears on my son’s 4runner and that was an easy success.

over time I’ve learned I prefer a tighter, neutral shock over the digressive valving they use, but it’s hard to get it right and the more shock swaps I’ve done, the more I appreciate bilstein 4600s as a best recommendation.

edit: I am embarrassed by how many times I’ve swapped shocks looking for an “ideal.” It’s almost a disease.

I have Fox on my Wrangler, worth every penny.

Got the majority of that drain tile buried. Need to transplant some Rose of Sharon's today and dig that out at the end to get another ten foot run out towards the ditch. Need to bury the other end but that can wait.

Last time I transplanted after Christmas was when I use to buy live balled and burlaped Christmas trees many years ago.

This holiday weekend I did my good deeds for a few friends.

- replaced starter on a 2008 Honda Accord 2.4
- replaced rear brake calipers and brakes on a 2007 Honda Accord Coupe 2.4
- acquired and programmed a key fob for a 2010 Toyota RAV4 w/push button start.

And now I'm polishing off some leftover sweet potato casserole and some bacon wrapped turkey that was my Christmas dinner.

Life is Good! Let us rejoice in the coming 2024 New Year! Prosit!

Me, I'm justing waiting for the rain to stop, my Harley is calling my name,,,but its been raining in Chattanooga................crossing my fingers,,,short ride maybe, lol..

Saturday I had a Christmas get-together to attend. Sunday i painted my bedroom. Yesterday I cleaned up around the house. Today replaced the alternator and alternator belt on a neighbor's daughters 2002 Nissan Altima. This one had the 3.5 V6 which requires R&I radiator and cooling fan assembly.

Installed spring stiffener because heavy duty lift springs are too espensive but these are free because I got them for Christmas. I don't think my relatives are gonna buy me $400 lift springs, and the original springs are a bit saggy IMG_20231225_200859468.webp

'89 K2500: I've never experienced drum brake "squeal" until this. Awhile back the wheel cylinder failed, so maybe brake fluid contamination contributed?

Anyway I sanded down the shoes by hand, sanded the ID of the drum and thoroughly cleaned everything, including gunk and buildup in the friction material rivet counterbores.

It's quiet for now - hopefully it stays that way

Got my 10 foot of trench dug and 4 bushes dug up yesterday. Full of tree roots and rock near the driveway. Need to get the bushes in the ground today and go to the big store for another stick of drain tubing. The tree roots were terrible. Broke my shovel handle again. :(

Whenever work gets me down I always tell myself, "At least I'm not outside digging a ditch "

At this point in my life there's noting I'd rather do. The last 5 or so years I've been working on drainage around the yard after ignoring it for 30 years. Two years ago a I got some new glasses and they somewhat distort the view. Not too bad but I've figured out the are really good for amplifying the small grades in the yard. So now I can't help myself.....
