What are you working on today?

Replaced the rear axle support bushings on my 07 Corolla. Was geared up for a fight with the BFH, torch and sawzall on standby. Living in Texas with no salt really helped out on this one. Couple taps on a cold chisel and they were already moving.

Energy suspension poly bushings went in.

It like my baby got whole new lease on life.

Friday
1970 Ford Bronco 302 V8
Replaced points, distributor cap, rotor button, spark plugs and plug wires, changed oil

Started building a shallow workbench in the garage. we moved in April and I’ve been using a plastic table. Plywood backer against the wall with 2 2x6 for narrow shelves. 6 feet wide, 24” deep. Will double-stack 3/4 ply for the work surface and bathe it in water based poly for a decent work surface. So far, the backer is done. I like putting plywood up over the wall as I can drill into it as much as is needed. It’s a small garage for a 2-car, and space is a little tight.

Finally finished all the windows on the east side of my house. Just have 1 left for some interior trim work.

Coaching my son through doing maintenance work on the Danger Ranger (2003 Ford Ranger).

Walked him through changing the front shocks (lending a hand where needed):

Then changing the oil.

We are waiting on the new leaf springs for the rear, then it's springs and shocks in the back.

Tomorrow will be door pins (driver's door is pretty saggy) and seeing if we can solve the interior light switch issue, which seems to be associated with the driver-side door.

Tracking a vibration that I could feel in my backside while cruising on the interstate in the Chrysler. I put a screwdriver on a box and lined it up with the edge of the rim on both the outside and then the inside. The left rear looked fine both inside and outside. Spinning the wheel, it stayed right on the edge.
The right rear outside looked fine as well, screwdriver tip stayed right at the edge. Then I got to the inside of the RR. A bent rim,…..nice. 🙄

Then, to top it off, it barely started this morning. The Gold (3 year warranty) battery from Advance had to be replaced after 1 year and 9 months. Oh well, that was free, so I won’t gripe too much about that. 😉🍻

POV: I'm a Kia Boyz 🪛

I'm still curious about the whole H/K anti theft debacle
So I used this 2011 Sonata GLS for study
This car HAS NOT had the 993 Campaign anti theft security update
I think it's because it came with the factory alarm
Luckily the window sticker was still in the glove box

1000007263.webp

1000007267.webp

All of this from the factory, with the factory keyfob
Two other 2020 Elantras I maintain didn't do this from the factory, they had to get the software update
Yet this Sonata is flagged in the system as needing the anti theft update
The factory alarm disarms with the key in the driver's door, cars that had the 993 Campaign update won't
Because then you can disarm the immobilization by just screwdrivering the door lock 🔐
Maybe the update will strip the key barrel switch out of the logic, so the engine will only crank if unlocked with the remote 🤷‍♂️
When it's owner finally gets it done, I'll retest
1000007261.webp

1qt of 5w40 in less than 1,000 miles, I don't give this engine till next Christmas 🙄
1000007271.webp

Both outer tie rod ends, lots of anti seize to ease the alignment he refuses to get

Sure my guy, that's perfectly safe
Burn up your nice new Kumhos 🙄

The caveman dial indicator....I like it. Now to see if you can build one from a 55gal drum -- I hear those things are useful for everything :D

Love this. Used to true bike rims in similar manner in a pinch, also checking for out-of-round tires once.

Yesterday at this point.

2020 Ranger

New front Bilsteins to match the rear Bilsteins

New DPFE sensor - Don't get me started, this is one of those things that really shouldn't fail, but pretty much all of them do.

Oil Change

Decent days work. Front shocks are pretty easy on this truck.

A little more "bonding" time on the day off over the weekend with the koup.

Installed a oem belt tensioner
installed oem front inner and outer tie rods
Installed new rear shocks
lubricated and cleaned all four brake calipers, all slider pins & hardware, plus gave the calipers a couple coats of "Caliper RED" paint for a finishing touch.

installed a matching red led button SiriusXM head unit and customized the shark fin antenna to hide the aftermarket SiriusXM antenna. I took the aftermarket SXM antenna apart, followed by taking the shark fin apart, and ran the SXM antenna to the inside of the shark fin antenna. Reassembled and you would never know. The reception even seems better than the factory XM antenna..

Front hitch installation on '08 F150. Surprisingly easy, just uses the tow hook bolts plus one additional bolt per side.

I got to use my new-to-me 2-stage trans jack

I just clamp a piece of 2" sq to the plate and use it as a mock draw bar to hold and position the hitch

Installed front and rear duals on a brand new JD 9R 590. Had to set the track width on the pre-installed wheels first, then install the hubs, then the hub extensions, then finally the outer wheel. Tire size, you ask? Try LSW 800/55R46!

Forgot to get pictures of the duals installed, but you get the idea. Took two of us most of the day to get the initial track width set and one pair of duals on the rear. Tomorrow we'll finish the front axle.
