What are you working on today?

Washed the parent’s car but discovered a nail in an unrepairable area. Off to America’s Tire it went. The car sees Uber service and I really wanted to install a cheaper tire - but I won’t even let my enemies install Chinese/Thai tires(like Westlake, Sailun, LingLong, Otani, Leao). I got their authorization for a set of new Michelin Defender LTXs.

Replacing the later, Euro spec signal lenses on my old Rover with the rare, awkwardly oversized, ugly and fragile proper NADA OEM spec turn signal lamps. Took a long time to find a good set, they were only used in the US for 2 years or so and IIRC the ANZ market. This truck came to me with none, so I installed the later LR lamps. This is the test fit as I still need the proper screws for the lens and I have no idea why there is a plugged hole in the left fender....

It's the little things...

Replaced the PCV valves on the 06 Infiniti M45. About 4000 miles ago I pulled the originals and cleaned them up. Got them sort of clicking again. Oil consumption didn't go down though. So when I pulled them out today, they were again gummed up and no longer clicking when shaken. We'll see if new ones help at all. 🤷‍♂️

Finished up the trailer this weekend. Laid down some semi-gloss black on it, fixed all the lights and got the deck done.
The conning tower/sale will be installed this week. Should make a nice parade float! I was pretty happy with the results for being an
amateur. Any suggestions for the wheels? I was thinking some hub caps, maybe trim rings? Just want to clean them up.

Upping the air pressure on my 02 Silverado w/ Toyo Open Countrys LT265/70R17 from the "wet season" 45PSI F/R to "dry season" 55PSI. 45PSI is the recommended tire pressure per Toyo's P-to-LT Metric conversion guide but it feels like it's too mushy. Bumping it up to 55PSI, about shy of a 2500HD's 60PSI front tire pressure feels less mushy with lesser rolling resistance, albeit with a harsher ride.

In an end note, LT's on a half ton never again. Had LT's on the 01 Tundra for a decade and was finally able to get a decent pair of P-Metric A/T's and man it's nice to have the OEM ride again.

I started an intake gasket replacement job on a 1995 Chevrolet S10 V6 this morning. I've got the surfaces cleaned and ready for the intake to be reinstalled, fortunately this one has went pretty smoothly. I'll finish it up tomorrow.

Head gaskets on a 08 GM 3.5. Also a handful of other things with it (spark plugs/wires, heater pipes, hoses, water pump, exhaust work and an axle seal).

This is what we got the pleasure of doing at work today. Didn’t even get a chair lol. They are for the parts guys and some service advisors. That’s not even all the ones we put together. Man the times I wish we had customers lol. But now that we are all hourly for the winter I’m not complaining. At least starting in a few months we will go back to being able to pull into the bay ourselves instead of having the customers do it. At least that’s the plan. Had one scrape against the lift today with their tire luckily it didn’t pop the tire and didn’t damage the car or lift. As far as actual work nothing really came in. Helped put an engine in and done a tire rotation on the same car but that was really it. Also installed one of the security systems my dealer uses in a Subaru. It’s so they can cut the car off if you don’t make payments we put them on every car then turn the system off when the car is paid for. Oh yeah and helped one of our awesome salesman get a stuck license plate off. The plastic that holds the screws in was spinning and they were very rusty so what I did since the plate was already bent where they had tried I wedged a pair of pistol grip pliers in there and took and screwdriver and twisted while holding the plastic with the pliers. He was amazed haha.

That’s something I expect from a BHPH lot, or a dealership that does a lot of subprime and Uber/Lyft business.

Cheaper than calling the repo man(and probably much safer too) but still. Banks need to watch their assets with certain clients.

I agree. And we have our own tow trucks too who go and get these shut off vehicles lol. I mean the dealership is so big so it’s probably a good thing to have we sell 10 different brands just in new cars and any brand used. Every new and used car gets it. What sucks is when it starts making the car mess up it’s especially bad about making Jeep’s mess up and not want to start up. Don’t know if it’s something different in a Jeep system or what but Jeeps do not like them at all.

FCA’s been installing a “security gateway” in response to a hacking attack some 6-7 years ago where someone found the cellular modem’s phone number, “dialed” into the car and interacted with it with simple AT commands but also found the commands to start/stop the engine and a few other things. Not shocked if the Jeep doesn’t use a discrete 12V signal to energize the starter relay.

Many guys on the forums hate it when a dealer installs an alarm like the SWDS KARR systems.

Lubed the chassis and drivetrain on my company flatbed. 5 U-joints, front and rear slack adjusters, axle kingpins, and steering gear.

Finished the tune up on the 2500. Don't have anything scheduled for tomorrow. Might cut a little more firewood if I'm feeling up to it.
