What are you working on today?

This is an ongoing job, we try to have one of these to take up slack time - a Feedout Wagon...I hate these things !
How does this stuff even work ?...? Steampunk engineering.

The conveyor belt, this shoots the feed (maize) out the side. See it's not sitting level ?

The side seals (I have removed them) were worn and allowed feed to get under the belt.

That is a pile of stinking rotten maize...I have to climb inside and shovel it out, trying not to add to it.

We are looking for another mechanic - do you think we could get a Millennial to do this sort of work ?

I rolled i to a few holidays I booked and because of the heat, not a heck of a lot to do. Its far to hot to haul horses mid day so we had a long distance client roll in at 230am and I rolled out at 5am. Beat the worst of it.

My P0111 came back 3/4 the way through my trip so I got more work to do.

This evening I swapped out the CCV filter on the 3500 and called it a night.
That engine is not fun to work on when its installed in a bus 😠

Not much scheduled today. At least I get 8 hours of free holiday pay but still have to drive an hour to work and an hour back and I work overtime this week so that’s even more pay. We have several guys that were supposed to be here at 8 just now rolling in everyone is tired lol. So far only done two oil changes and only have 6 cars scheduled for our part of the shop.

I got to pressure wash my deck and removed the old semi transparent stain. I am just going to apply a clear sealer at this time.

No more color stains, the sun eats them like candy, the deck faces West and takes a real biting sun/ rain.

Changed oil in yard max- mityvac

Charged up batt and took new riding mower for a spin -while I debated what to buy the neighbors made me a deal I couldn't refuse on a Craftsman riding mower 24 HP KOHLER (nice) 24 hours total time for 1K. Its blue tooth enabled so theoretically will remind me when to change oil / filter/ bleed and air filter as well as everything else not that I needed anything to track that for me. Still trying to setup the account.....

Watching Mrs. Uncle Dave pit plums and make more preserves.

Changed the oil in the convertible today. 12 months, 950 miles. It was still quite amber. The OLM is the boss until the warranty's done. 😕

And just to show the variety of stuff I get to work on, here is todays job.

A '67 Mustang. Worried his oil pressure is too high, I fitted a mechanical gauge and confirmed his electric one is out of whack. Also an oil leak, which was a coolant leak. The bolts holding the thermostat were stripped, which would need a manifold removal to repair. So I made some studs to pick up undamaged threads and made a new gasket too.

Treating project Milan to some reliability improvements

Revised throttle body w/gasket , purge valve for $100 or so, seems to have solved my idle issues, and running rich after a refuel

Transmission shifts much cleaner too

Now the AC cuts out in hot weather 🔥, blend door actuator didn't fix it

Something else to diagnose 🤷‍♂️

Got a 2019 Rebel 300 coming by on the weekend for an engine tick/knock, don't know how in 2y/650 miles, but I'll look at it (I've never worked on a motorcycle)

Ordered up a maintenance kit for it, see what I'll find

The Bedford/Holden is a runner - with the fuel rail full of water I wasn't hopeful for the injectors, but new filter baskets and O rings, sorting hoses etc, it fired up and runs sweet as. That was our brief, finishing the build is someone elses problem. New sender unit and the Mustang has gone.

The day after the Mustang this came in...just to complete the theme of unusual for us vehicles.

2003 Town & Country new brake pads all 4 wheels, new front rotors. Rear pads about 50% but did them anyway. Front drivers side needed changing and rotors scored badly. Also broke out the Mity Vac and bled all 4 wheels. Oil change tomorrow.....trying to sell it....

My son and I changed the serpentine belt on his 2014 RAM 1500 with the eco diesel. It just hit the 100K mark. Went to You Tube and found a video on how to do it. Replaced the OEM with a gates heavy duty and saved a few bucks. After removing the old belt we noticed it was made by Gates.
