What are you working on today?

Isn't this a dealership? No excuse for running something like a Dewalt compressor, which is just re-badged who-knows-what. They should have something like a quality Quincy or even a rotary screw. And a backup sitting on a pallet.
Yes correct dealership. When they built it they were mad at Toyota for requiring a separate building so they done it on the least budget possible. They got the best deal on the Dewalt compressor so that’s what they have.

Replaced front brake rotors and pads, changed oil

1998 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4wd
Started replacing the idler and pitman arms. Got it tore down before calling it a day, I'll finish it tomorrow.

Oil and drive drivetrain fluids in the Yamaha Wolverine x2. Oil and front brake maintenance on the Polaris Magnum. I noticed the front brakes grabbing so I tore them down and found that they needed fresh silicone brake grease on the slide pins. Good as new now.

2nd time wasn't any better but at least it was the right length. Now need to work on the steam hose but it's in the sun yuck.

The alternator has been delayed due to RockAuto/FedEx fumbling
So I've been keeping busy on other tasks with this POJ 2011 Sonata with 130k miles

The Autel lets you customize steering feel in the EPAS module, I nice touch if you want to change the feel
1 to 4 increases feel/feedback (read: lowers assist)

This throttle body isn't too terribly dirty, but I've been burned with this car before with dead batteries and it not idling right after, so I removed it and gave a thorough clean, so the idle will relearn properly
The alternator is still in transit, but I can take the 124R battery and warranty it in the meantime
I told him not to drive it around once the battery light came on, he delivered pizza until it died in front of someones driveway (with the next houses pizza stuck) 🙄
I don't think newer cars with more modules like being driven around with low voltage ⚡
It was interesting following him home (I had to jump him 3 times along the way) watching the brake lights dim

Typical Theta activities 😒
It was over 1qt low, so I did an OCI
It's a pretty heavy oil burner, so now I put Total 9000 5w40 and a OE Hyundai filter
The oil that came out was disgusting, yet it needs frequent top offs 🤷‍♂️
I give it another year before it's on the hook needing another short block 🙄

I wanna finish this car up, because I don't like working on it anymore
It's owner is consistently negligent, takes too long to pay me, and still balks at my prices/working schedule

I'm at ~$200 for the alternator delivered, I charge a flat $60 for Total Oil+OEM filter
Cleaning the throttle body, adding washer fluid, cleaning the battery terminals, etc
I said $100 for labor 🤔
This would've been $600-$800 worth of work at prevailing rates around here
I don't need this 😔

Had a crazy occasional clunking from the front drivers side wheel area of my 02 Avalanche 2500 I couldn't figure out.
Everything was tight that I could see. Took the wheel off, thought perhaps a brake caliper bolt broke, nope fine. Wheel bearing was good. Tie rod ends were good, though will need replacing soon, the boots are cracking a little. Same with ball joints, but not bad yet. Couldn't figure it out. I had bought shocks for it a year ago that I forgot about, and decided since I was in it, just replaced them quick. Dang if the clunk is gone. I believe the rubber mount wore down enough to occasionally start smacking around the hole. Least I hope it's fixed, this vehicle is good at breaking me down. I fix a problem, and then bam, another one. This thing has tested my patience to no end.

Interesting, I had an '03 Burb 2500 w 8.1 that was the same way. Truly it's just that I purchased it with more problems than I realized. Within the first couple months I had to replace the battery, both front wheel bearings, front brakes, both fuel pumps (Calif system made them slightly more rare) and other things I've repressed.

Sold it with crazy wander in the front in 4wd. Best I could ever figure the steering box was toasted and once the front wheels were powered it would dart left, right, repeat

I woulda kept it but 4 gears + 8.1.....it just never had the right gear for towing. An Ally would have been amazing

Installing a transmission temp gauge in my truck. All done except for tiddying up. Still gotta put some split loom over the wires underneath and attach to another harness with some zip ties.

Preparing (you tube video research) to perform a remove / replace of the blend door actuator in a 2007 Saturn Vue. Looks to be difficult to remove one of the three screws on the unit. Never had to replace one of these in any of my vehicles.
For some weird reason I love under-dash work like that! Although with each passing year I'm slower to get up and groan more as I do.....

I think the mechanics are pretty much the same, the Avy has the 8.1 too. It was low mileage but the previous owners apparently didn't know what an underbody flush was for salt. It's pretty rotted. When I got it I did all the fuel lines, both fuel pumps since the tanks were down, upgraded intake gasket since the thing took a lot of oil (it is better now), crank position sensor (wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy on an 8.1), all shocks, joints, regular maintenance gear oils etc. There are other little things too. I would get rid of it, but shoot by now it's still a 78k mileage truck that is kinda decent, and paid for. We will see, I am one surprise away from listing it though.

Spark plug change, as part of a coil change to solve a misfire. These are the old plugs.

IMG_2294.jpeg

I didn’t like how they looked, though the electrodes were sharp and they all gapped OK.

I blew out each well, then removed the plugs, chased each spark plug hole with a thread chaser made from an old Bosch plug, then installed and torqued the new plugs.
