Work was really busy today. Very unusual for the day before the 4th usually we are dead the day before. Will be nice to be off tomorrow for the paid holiday. Done a diagnosis on a Tacoma that kept dying and battery light on and no start without a jump. It was the alternator. Customer approved and we installed. Had to get an aftermarket one as he needed it today. I haven’t had good luck with aftermarket alternators but hopefully it will serve him well. It’s a Duralast from Auto Zone. Done a few sets of brakes too. Done an oil change where the customer provided their own oil and filter they provided a Fram filter don’t remember the number maybe 9972 and Quaker State Full Synthetic 0W-20 which all my coworkers were laughing at but I told them it was good approved oil so it didn’t matter.

Heater core flush

Got it very clean.

Mobile Mechanic is on his way... then, just to find another body to move car to its.. umm.. Final Destination.

Plan is to use the car after repair, particularly to get to and from career but if it just doesn't work.. let me know if there is any interest (in owning it.)

Complete with DIFY. Radiator going in

Been so busy I haven't had time to work on the Chevelle, Found a couple hours this mourning.....

A/C Compressor installed.....Made in Japan Sanden SD-7! Ordered a few different length stretch belts & found one that fits well. Calls for a tensioner....But stretch belts perform better in this application. Heater bypass hose as well. No need for a fair weather Texas car to have heat.

Bought some Injectors, GM 12613412 that flow 50 lb/hr @58 PSI, Got those & the Fuel Rail installed, Along with the oil dipstick & tube

Nothing today. Paid holiday. Planned on changing the oil in the Escape but that didn’t happen got busy with family stuff and it’s my parents anniversary and I wanted to go to the fair while it was in town and I was off but it was a really fun day. Had a nice cookout, spent time with family and stuff like that. Feels really weird being off on a Tuesday lol. I kept thinking it was Sunday today haha. I really was dying to wrench today but family comes first my oil change can wait till Saturday or Sunday it’s not quite do yet.

Another right of passage completed. IS38 turbo waste gate actuator adjustment. Watched the shopdap video on YouTube but no way I could spin the rod with my finger. The 10mm jam nut is straightforward to loosen/tighten. I improvised some tethers as one dropped tool is too many for this. I just used some small vice grip needle nose to get on that rod and turn it. It worked and it doesn't look like a boogered the threads. Got my value back in range at ~3.6. Ran the Basic Settings after and it completed so all good. Test drive confirmed success.

When my turbo was installed a few years ago my voltage was ~3.6. Last few track events I was having an EPC only when I came in off-track from a session; never during the session. Code indicated WG needed adjustment. WG volts were at 4.1 which is a bit out of range on the high side. Range should be 3.4-3.9 as I understand it.

The 2010 Ford Crown Victoria is going down…

My nephew texted a video late last night that I saw this morning. Whilst the engine has oil on the mark on the dipstick, it’s making a very noticeable knock. That wasn’t there last week, so it must have continued to develop. It wasn’t caught soon enough I’m afraid (the car lost oil due to a Denso oil filter gasket leaking it away over a week’s time).

Engines for these cars are cheap and plentiful, and nearby are a half dozen, way lower mileage V8s for it for between $350 to $500.

Now I’ll have to lend him something until I can get it done.

Positive is that there are so many that it’s a cheap fix (compared to my Charger, or the Mini). New project with a priority now. 🫤

Oil change, tire rotation and air filter on a 2018 Silverado this morning. Just got back from the machine shop with a fresh 5.7 Vortec for a 72 nova. I'm not installing it, just ran the errand because I had nothing else going on.

We were slammed at work today. The service advisors can’t keep the doors shut so the A/C basically serves no purpose. I kept having to walk up and close them myself. Poor old guy came to our dealership with his 2004 Lincoln Town Car from Advance Auto which is basically in our parking lot and he said that they told him since his check engine light was on that he desperately needed a fresh oil change as it would make his engine preform better. But the thing is he didn’t tell us that till after we changed the oil. He said hey young sir can you cut this light off for me they told me it was for my oil change and told me not to even go across the street because it badly needed it when that light came on. I said well sir that’s your check engine light so you have a different problem other than your oil change. He said well can you tell me what it is and I went to get the scan tool which I was going to scan for him as a courtesy and the boss stopped me and told me we’d have to charge if he wanted diagnosis which he didn’t want to pay for. He said he was going to go to Auto Zone just down the street and get it scanned this time instead of Advance. The oil filter was a real pain to get off had to rig up a nice contraption to break it loose. Nice to finally use my really dusty 16mm socket on the drain plug too haha. Haven’t touched 16mm at work since I was an anything and everything tech haha. At home I use it on my
Fords and Jeep and Volkswagen though.

The rest of the day man it was non stop though. I finally got tired of stopping what I was doing to shut the doors and just put up with the heat.

2009 Kia Spectra
Replaced valve cover gasket, spark plugs, wires, front sway bar links, changed oil

2001 Ford Ranger 4 wheel drive
Rear end swap. Got the old rear end out, junkyard replacement installed, partially. I've got to turn the drums this weekend at home and then replaced the brake shoes and wheel cylinders Monday. Swapped over the parking brake cables already.

My '19 JL: rotated tires, oil change.

As is my habit I inspected the drivetrain while on the lift. The u-joint at the front pinion had play again. I had just replaced it 14k miles ago, but I used a crappy AC Delco joint because it was all I had at the moment. The thing is this doesn't see 4wd that often and the CAD is still operational, so it was only spinning for a fraction of those short 14k miles it was in there.

This time at least I had an actual Spicer 5-1310x so that went in.

Watering the growing forest - I should note that most all these trees were free or super discounted. Many/most root bound, some just
wrapped in sleeves, or given from someone who got "too many trees". I've lost a few to extreme heat and dry combined with extreme cold winters for the area. The fellows who made it through are cranking.

02 Silverado fuel pump replacement. Replaced it with a Delphi unit with new clips, retaining ring and fuel filter.

Glad it went out in the garage but it was showing symptoms months prior to it's failure. Pinging under moderate to heavy acceleration, sluggish on onramps.

And it's the third fuel pump, last replacement was in August 2012 with a ACDelco unit.
