These guys are always doing some crazy experimentation which is pretty entertaining at times, lol. Rod bearings always take a bigger beating due to the dynamic forces induced from the piston & rod mass changing directions (makes larger changes in the oil film MOFT), whereas the crankshaft has much less of those kind of forces on it. That's why wear on crankshaft main bearings always seems better than the rod bid end bearings, even if an engine isn't ran without oil.
