I occasionally watch this YouTube channel as he reports on Lake Mead water levels dropping quickly.
I wonder what happens in a few years as population growth continues and increasing water demand.

You can fast forward to middle of video to see the substantial drop in water level.

I was just there a couple weeks ago. It’s crazy to see it in person!

I think there will be some hard decisions to be made but I’m sure the issue will just get kicked down the road …

Unfortunately, people leave Michigan and the surrounding area to escape the climate, go to the Southwest, then look back and want water pumped from the Great Lakes to feed their thirst.

With sea level rise, can you imagine pumping water from the Pacific Ocean, then getting the saltwater out and then having some pipeline going to Las Vegas? The cost and time to build would cost a lot of money!

WOW!! This happened since 1985. Beyond amazing. Back in high school in the early 1970's my science teacher claimed that the almighty dollar would ALWAYS trump wise environmental conservation. He was so correct and in this video he states the exact same thing at about minute 18.

Thanks for sharing this video.

There are multiple causes of this;

1. There is no control over how much water Las Vegas pumps out.
2. There is no control over how much water California pumps out.
3. Upriver, every little tributary has been dammed for irrigation of crops, mostly hay. So less water reaches Lake Powell.
4. Drought.
5. Water still needs to reach the Sea of Cortez.
6. Arizona farmers get too much water.

The solution is very simple. Just stop pumping out more water than comes in.

Back in the 80's I think Ross Perot wanted to build a pipeline from the Mississippi river to lake Mead, or somewhere out west.
Turns out that would have been a great idea.

So that we can subsidize the growth of desert populations by destroying yet another water resource from an area half way across the country? Yeah, no thanks. I’m glad we didn’t.

LV can figure it out themselves, and leave everyone else’s resources alone.

Well, it never happened. Apparently smarter people prevailed. How about Lake Superior? :)

However, it has been proposed several times over the years. As recently as 2021.

Desalination plants are a great idea and will eventually become part of the mix. Takes a lot of power to run them. They will have to decide between power for the plants or data centers.
Make it California's problem. They have a huge tax base. :ROFLMAO:
I think Dubai is 100% ocean water and some islands in the Pacific. The surrounding states need to stop California from solving California problems by raping the nieghbors.

And many will say no nuclear power options just use wind and solar but make everything electric. NY city banned the use of fossil fuels in new construction. Many details on how many story building and other but they want to roll to all of NY state. Lawsuits of course in process.
