What are you using on OPE?

Well it's that after I run it long enough...

I use ST 5W30 in my Champion invertor, something like that in my push mower (which to be honest gets like 5 hours per season so it's been a few years since I changed it), and my ATV gets Rotella 5W40, T6 I think. None of them get run all that long per year, so they go a couple years between changes. I should change the oil in my riding mower as it gets the most use, although the ATV is probably most important (it pushes snow in the winter).

I should change more often, as they seem to see a fair amount of gasoline loading (blowby?) (just smells gassy when I change it). Quality is probably less important than freshness. None of them are fuel injected.

I’d toss a Prime GUARD/CQ PREMIUM or ECOGUARD On before touching MC/Puro filth.

I haven't had any issues with the quality of the Motorcraft or Purolator filters. I just can't justify twice the price.

I have noticed many people opt for the Diesel oil. Is oil marketed for Small Engines (like JD, Briggs and Stratton, Kinetix, etc) not as good as Diesel oil for a small engine? Is it more about availability and cost.

There is nothing special about small engine branded/marketed motor oils as they are usually way overpriced for the amount you get. Diesel engine oils do well with soot control and fuel dilution for which many small engine OPE deal with.

I use HDEO cause it just works. Plus I shop at Rural King as they carry Delvac SAE 30 and their own Providence lineup of HDEO oils.

Diesel oil has all the vitamins and minerals a flat tapper camshaft craves

Oil is typically 5w40 HDEO, whatever is left over from truck or tractor.

Filters Fram TG or XG\FS if found on clearance for the mower.

358cc and 318cc Tecumseh Snowking's get 0W30 Mobil. 173cc Tecumseh and GX160 Honda get 5W30 Full Synthetic (whatever brand I have open). And 170cc Briggs gets the leftover milk jug because I don't care because it's a Briggs. No filters on this lot.

My John Deere D140 lawn tractor gets 15w-40 Rotella T6 and a Fram Tough Guard 3614. It averages 30 hours per year so I change the oil annually but the filters go for two seasons.
