A little off topic, but I seen a USB modem yesterday at the computer store. It looked like a USB memory stick with a phone jack in one end and a USB cable coming out the other. My first 2400 Baud (2.4K) modem was about 6 inches long...

This topic is very interesting. This week I had the urge to build my first computer. I had a lot of parts around the house. I bought a case, MB, and heatsink/fan at New Egg since the price was right. I would like to see what you come up with. With my build I was doing it as cheap as possible. I have three computers using a modem so for some things speed it not my need. I would say know what you want the computer to do, follow the links others have recommended, and go from there. New Egg seemed to have a lot of good deals on memory right now.
