What a mess in Massachusetts

I think many are living good for the amount of work they are doing.

The solution is to require the money to come from as close as possible.

When the bulk of the money comes from DC or the state capital, there is little or no incentive to police waste, fraud or abuse.

When the money is coming from your neighbors, and it's obvious that it's local money and not from some state or federal capital, then folks will suddenly get interested in who is milking the system and who has genuine needs.

As long as it's a big system, there will be big fraud.

There is a huge difference between your friend that has MS and is unable to work and the people playing the system. I don't think anyone wants to see your friend sitting in the dark with no phone, cable or AC.

I don't know what the answer is for the others milking the system. They do need to revise the food stamp program so that people aren't buying soda, ice cream and snacks with no nutritional value.

I installed satellite dishes in college, and commonly went into these poor areas for installations. If anyone thinks they are living good, you're mistaken.

I have relapsing MS. I was diagnosed in 2001. I went on the Avonex shot once a week at $1200 a shot, which there was no way I could afford. Biogen, the manufacturer of Avonex offered to put me on a program that they offer as a company. I paid $75 four times a year for them to ship me a 3 month supply. Even after I got a job with benefits they kept me on their program because they said it would be cheaper.

As of last year I'm now taking Gylenia, a once a day pill. The cost would be $1000 a month, but the manufacturer automatically put me on their company plan through their specialty pharmacy. They cover my copayment up to $12k a year, so basically they're giving to me for free even though I have ins. I didn't even ask, they just called me and said here's the plan you're on, your cost is zero.

So basically, have your neighbor call the manufacturer of her meds and ask about getting on their plan. There's a good chance that they will give them to her themselves for nothing.

The the weekly big needle interferon shot has this woman stabilized for the past 5 years. I have another friend, he was on something other than interferon, he relapsed. Not sure why there are different meds, but I would investigate a change. Unless.. what this thread is about... Somewhere in a insurance cube there is a bean counter deciding life and death.

Which there probably is, but back to your initial premise, that isnt a function of the MA system, but rather a function of guaranteeing profits and dividends for shareholders rather than merely pooling risk and paying for the betterment of the population who pay into the system to benefit based upon pure actuarial risk.

Its not like any other insurance setup in the USA is any different.

As opposed to a cubical in a government agency that has no contract with you? What incentive to do they have to provide you care?

Paul Krugman has admitted that death panels are what this country really needs to allocate healthcare resources.

Do you really think the government is going to write you a blank check for your care?
