We're not against daylight savings as a whole

just for three months either side of the equinox.

Quote off an "activist" on the idjit box tonight.

I'd keep it all year around personally.

I'd rather arrive home with some light than in the dark.

I'd rather wake up in daylight - I just get a glimpse of sunny mornings, and then they put me back in the dark again.

I hate having to change clocks. Split the difference, go half an hour of daylight savings time and then keep it year round. No more clock fiddling.

Daylight saving time was invented by an old indian who had a blanket but wanted a larger one.......
he cut one foot off of one side and sewed it on the other side.

It paid. DST:EST always occurs on a Saturday night:Sunday morning. When it resulted in me working an additional hour ..I got paid for it. When it resulted in me working an hour less, they never docked me for it. The people doing the calculations were all Mon-Fri people.

I could never understand daylight savings time, even when it was explained to me. It was invented in Ben Franklin's time, so there must be something to it.

I like the blanket and indian analogy.

Well, there's no reason to waste daylight at the least usable time. While it doesn't mean much in a 24hour society, the vast majority here are sun worshipers.

Daylight sets many biological clocks. I believe that there's research to suggest that the lack of it is an element in "winter depression" that some are subject to on a recurring basis.

It would make sense to sleep through as much darkness as possible. We are not nocturnal creaters.

Arizona doesn;t go on DST to show the Federal Gumnt who is boss.

The Navajo Nation in Arizona does go on DST to shoe the Arizona Gumnt who is boss.

China not only doesn't uses DST, they have one time for the entire country, which is 3 or 4 time zones wide by normal standards.

For energy consumption point of view, DLS actually use more energy since the summer time AC usage is going to be more than lighting.

That's an interesting thought. Do you have something to back that up?

DST originated before AC and I don't think there was much doubt that it saved little energy then, but this is now.

That was ugly when it was tried in the 1970s. You went to work in the dark and school kids were walking to school, waiting for their bus etc in the dark.

Nixon declared it during one of the embargoes ..and a child was the casualty of the evolution due to a school bus running them over ..or at least that's what it was blamed on.

The major shift in demand around here is from 4pm-7pm during 9months and from 1pm-9pm in the summer. It's assumed that cooling is the big demand in the summer, while cooking and lights getting turned on in the dwelling are the other. It could just as easily be everyone hitting up their favorite watering hole for a few brews and some finger food.
