Expired temp tags, ugh we're one of them

Unless it's a year or two expired I now have a new outlook on expired temp tags. Licensing a vehicle is such an archaic process. Took the dealer we purchased the BMW from 6 weeks to get us the titling paperwork. I had to finally email them asking what the status was and it was done that day, aka if probably had been done for weeks. When we bought the scooter last year the paperwork was ready in 3 weeks, but that was cash. We haven't bought a vehicle with a loan nor from a dealer since 2006 so we don't have alot of experience and it's changed since then. The next week was Thanksgiving and we already had a trip planned.

DMV appointments are a month out in our wonderful Wyandotte County. In hindsight should of made the appointment at purchase. They have a "save a spot in line" but they had that turned off all this week. Friday my wife showed up at 0730 and the door was still locked and wasn't opened till 0830 and she had a doc appt so had to leave. By the time she got back they weren't handing out anymore tickets. Our DMV is a nightmare, the google reviews pretty much all say the same thing.

Going to try the drop off process, I could try to play the save a spot or spend all day at the DMV but my job might not like that after day 2. Guess the BMW going to gather dust for a bit till we it get it figured out, no we're not going to drive it. Still our fault since it's our responsibility but I won't think negatively of expired temp tags from our county after this.

Ouch Crappendotte. Here in Shawnee, I had an appt the next day. I was in and out within 10 mins.

I call it Slimedotte but its that to. Joco is alot better at it. There’s only two locations for the entire county.
The dealer can print you out a new temp tag anytime. Just go there and get it.
She called and asked, they wouldn’t do anything .

I find that odd, I've never had a dealer do that. They know title stuff can get messy, and I've had temp tags extended many times by different dealers. Bet if she showed up in person they would act. That's not good word of mouth for them.

I am sure they charged you a paperwork fee to get it tagged. Did they offer to refund that charge. The DMV can be a nightmare but it sounds like yours is actually trying to be as bad as possible, your county workers aren't in the middle of a pay dispute are they.

When I grew up in Massachusetts my dad paid something stupid like $32 at the dealer to have their guy get our Power of Attorney and he stood in line at the DMV (correction, RMV) and got our permanent metal plates all ready to roll for us when we picked the car up. Maybe private industry can come to your rescue as well, at a price, if the DMV is so terrible?

Many states have the dealer handle the title process so it can be done "better" than citizens. Plus there are ways to register (financed) cars without the purchaser seeing the title immediately.
I understand the part about no title when financing, however I'd be very skeptical to walk out of any dealership w/o a title after paying in full.

Here you have 60 days to register or there's a fine, maybe why they wouldn't. If we have to pay a fee for being late there will be a discussion. It's the major dealer for the brand here but I guess we bought one used we might not matter as much.

They didn't.. the fee is ridiculous for what they gave us. The dealer for the scooter was $200 less and had everything perfect, where we was supposed to sign and take etc. Seems like they just threw the paperwork together. No pay dispute that I know of, they've been slowly getting worse over the years. Last year licensing the scooter my wife was the first the door on that day but the last one to get handled that day. She wants to complain but don't know how, the entire county is that bad. We've been here 20 years and with long timers we all agree.

I believe a brand new vehicle comes with a Certificate of Origin. The first owner will not get a title. I'd expect them to have the CoO. The point is, in some cases, there isn't a title because the vehicle has not yet been titled.

You paid for a BMW and did not receive the title at the time of purchase from the dealer?
As others have said that's normal. I understand they had to wait for the check from the bank.

They need do, some areas of MO have private DMV's and seem to work well. Here they have no incentive to do their jobs and they won't be fired for reasons I won't say.

Her in Arkansastan, if you walk in and buy a new car via cash, you get some paperwork (bill of sale) and a temp tag that allows you to use the vehicle until it gets titled. The manufacturer sends you the Certificate of Origin, and with that, you take to the DMV, along with your assessment for property tax and taxes paid, then pay your sales tax, they give you your tag and sticker, your registration slip, and your state-issued title appears in the mail in about 6 weeks. If that temp tag, which is usually only good for 60 days comes to pass before your CoO gets to you, you can go back to the dealer and they will issue another one to you. 90% of the expired temp tags here are not a result of paperwork in as much as it's a result of not paying (or able to pay) your sales tax.

I’m in your metro. Did you get it from the ‘North’ or ‘South’ BMW dealer? I bought mine from the north one and they supplied the COO with all the paperwork when I drove it off lot. In 40+ years of buying new cars, the only time that hasnt happened was 2 years ago my daughter bought a Subaru literally right off the truck from a multi brand auto group here in town. It took a little over a week for it to show up in the mail, and it came from one of their dealers 60 miles from where she purchased. The ‘check clearing’ excuse might be valid for 3 days, but not as long as you describe. Makes one wonder if the dealer is having issues and dont have it/cant get it from BMW.

North.. This was a used and they did have the title. Literally all the paperwork that they gave us was the same we seen when we signed the paperwork. My mistake for not calling sooner, shouldn't of had to though.

This is the real problem. You should be able to just walk in with no appointment required.
Or they just need to open windows dedicated for both appointments and walk-ins. I'm not opposed to appointments but if that's all they want to handle yeah that's a problem.

Dropped off the paperwork at the drop box on Sunday. No communication of any kind yet. If there's none by Friday we might of made a big mistake. I have did mail in before to Vermont and no issue with that.
