Weird doctors office experience

I can understand photos with pro athletes……. photos with grimy politicians is just bizarre.
I heard someone say recently (paraphrasing): "In your home, never display a picture of yourself with anyone famous unless you are certain they would display the same picture in their home". I like that.

I think the same is said about name dropping. Just this AM I overheard a youth hockey coach say his daughter has gymnastics with Saquon's. That would be like me saying oh my son and Jason's daughters go to the same school. So? lol

Took my wife to an Ortho appointment . There are several Docs in that clinic . At one point the Nurse walked out in the lobby and announced that Doctor ++++ was running late due to issues during a morning surgery .but had just left the Hospital . His patients could either stay in the que or reschedule . Fair enough I thought . Some woman piped up and asked could they go get something to eat and come back ? The Nurse told her if she leaves , she loses her appointment slot .She wasn't happy about that ...

One thing I have noticed since COVID that my doctors (I have several specialists) are all properly scheduled and very few people are in the waiting room as compared to pre-COVID. I think COVID problem caused offices to improve their schedule management.

My wife's Ortho Dr. is a part of a Clinic . Standing room only in the waiting area most days . Same with the Physical Therapy Clinic . Big money in Orthopedics these days it seems .

I'm sorry. That doctor is out of line. Displaying their credentials on a plaque is fine. Go find a new doctor. This one is too selfish and more concerned about selling his books and being in the limelight. I also see a myriad of specialists ( Endocrinologist, Hematologist, Podiatrist, Spine Specialist, Colorectal Specialist, Dermatologist Specialist )..None have their books on sale in the waiting area. Only credential plaques and magazines to read while you wait you're turn. I fell apart at age 53. Been going all downhill since. For years, when I was younger, I didn't even have a Primary Care Doctor. Just go to an Urgent Care or a Hospital ER. Good thing I'm retired. I would have never had the time to see all of these specialists. But, they fix me up, and I want to live to get my full pension. That took 36 yrs to get at one job. If I drop dead, the wife only gets 1/2 the amount. I stay on top of things now. I'll be 59 soon. Want that FREE money I earned !!!!!!!!

The final strike was a sign saying you can expect to wait up to 3 hours beyond your appointment time due to the complex nature of treatments etc
I can easily ignore the "marketing" fluff but nope, 3 hour waits are a deal-breaker for me. If you are scheduling these treatments, they need to adjust patient appointments accordingly.
I started doing something a buddy told me worked for him. So far it has been GOLD. I schedule either the very first appointment of the day or the first one after they get back from lunch.
Didn't think that was a secret and I've been doing it for decades, for myself and our kid's appointments. I just never advertised it !
and I totaly understand and don't mind, is the time my back doctor had everyone's appointment running way behind because she had been called to do an emergency surgery.
Can understand that as well. Reminds me of a similar circumstance with my wife when I was with her at an OB/GYN appointment. Doctor was running behind on his appointments because one of his other patients decided it was time to have her baby.... The nerve of that woman !! 😂 More recently, I had a dental appointment and the hygienist was stuck in traffic because of an accident on the highway. They asked me if I wanted to wait or re-schedule and like above, this was an early appointment (her 1st of the day) and it's easier to go into work late for me, so I said I'll wait. They kinda frowned, then said they'll get me in as quick as they can. They even had another hygienist take me back for x-rays to save time. She eventually made it in, all went well, then when I was scheduling my next appointment, I asked about me saying I'd wait. I'm friends with one of the front desk ladies and she said when patients wait vs reschedule, it bumps every patient for the rest of the day. I actually apologized that I didn't realize this when I did it.

Got that beat. I was scheduled for back surgery @ 9am in HSS Hospital in Manhattan. I get all prepped, in a gown, IV line started, waiting to go in. It was 8:45am. Nurse came in and said " Oh, I'm sorry, they just helicoptered a guy in for emergency surgery. You have to wait till that is finished " I said OK. 11:45pm they come and take me for surgery. Now I had to stay overnight. It was an outpatient procedure. Didn't get released till 11:00am the next day. I was LIVID !!!!!! My surgeon was the only surgeon available to take care of this guy ???? Gimme a break !!! There are teams of back surgeons in that Hospital !!!!! Just my luck :(....

He is a careerist. There are a lot of them in the corporate event speech world and they relentlessly promote themselves. This guy is promoting his practice and his books.

Does it mean he's not a good doctor? Maybe, maybe not.

Some years ago I had a failed knee surgery. It was worse after than it was before. After doing some research I found a second surgeon to try again. Orthopedic Surgeon at UofM. The hallway was lined with photos of athletes with thank you notes on them. That actually made me feel pretty confident. Professional athletes (collegiate also) are huge investments by teams. They usually don't get sent to a second rate surgeon. I'm not sure if politicians are necessarily a priority when it comes to these things.

The thing that is the worst is the 3 hour wait. That is INSANE. Why bother having appointments?

I would have told them exactly that.
+1 I dealt with a lot of doctors over the years in my business. Some were great customers, some I wouldn't work for and told them so. I recall one instance where I pulled up to a doctor's house and he complimented my van, I thanked him. Then in the same breath he said: "you must charge a lot and if you think I'm going to pay your auto loan you're crazy." I said: "if you think I'm go to work for you you're out of your mind." I laughed and left. Some of them think they're some kind of God and are high and mighty. LOL

I’ve been dealing with an ongoing health issue for over a month now, trying to get answers and seeing a myriad of specialist. My latest experience was with a rheumatologist office. I really liked the doctor in the hospital but upon my follow up in the office his senior partner had two of his published books on display in a case in the waiting room for $25 a pop and a sign saying you could get the books autographed by the doctor upon request.

It just left a really bad impression on me. Also he had pictures with various politicians that were autographed and on display as well. I don’t care the political affiliation of the doctor I really don’t but it just seemed tacky. “Hey look at me and who I know.” The final strike was a sign saying you can expect to wait up to 3 hours beyond your appointment time due to the complex nature of treatments etc…is this weird and off putting or am i just irritable?

Needless to say I sought a second opinion.
Sounds like a sports med doctor. They like to have signed stuff around. Ive never seen a doctor offering to sign a book. Thats odd. The 3hr thing would make me consider leaving for an alternative

My dermatologist has photos of himself over a 50 year timeframe from med school and military up until today.

Yes, but the doctor I saw was a DO. The senior partner (MD) has billboards up with his face plastered all over. The whole thing just seemed off. The appointments running 3 hours late reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with reservations.
A three hr wait would be a deal breaker for me...I've waited a bit for a surgeon, but I don't think a rheumatologist would have many emergencies to attend.

Exactly my thoughts. Probably in his office putting his John Hancock on those fresh new books.
