I guess it’s been around for a while but this ad for a $115 lease payment on a 24 Taco caught my eye. The industry went to bi-weekly payments a long time ago but weekly seems to have taken over. I guess the next stop is daily. Enjoy.

Do we know what the MSRP is?
$460 a month for 64 months is $29,440. Is that correct?
$115/week x 4 weeks/mo. = $640/mo. x 64 mos. = $29,440
I suck at math, no, I really do suck at math, and I came up with $31,873. Survey says?
However, in reality $115/week x 52 weeks/yr. x 5.33 years = $31,893

$7499 down + $31,893 = $39,392

That makes a lot more sense! I was thinking $29 grand was too low. I also wonder if the $115 weekly payments do not include the 7.19 interest. That would raise the price even more by around $2832 US Dollars.

I rented my daughter an apartment to go to school. Its $1700 / month. Every month I get an add from some buy now pay later place the apartment offers that I can pay her rent in 4 installments instead of at once. They charge interest I assume, and no I never bothered to find out how much. You can buy anything weekly these days.

And Yes, she realizes she has a silver spoon in her mouth - otherwise good kid.

That's kinda dirty.
The last car we leased was a Nissan in January of 2020 and it was still monthly. The weekly lease is something I would expect from Nissan.

Not surprising.

I work in payroll management and there seems to be a trend toward increasing payment frequency (of staff) from semi-monthly/bi-weekly to weekly.

I don’t see a problem with it. Who cares how people want to spilt up payments?

When you are on a fixed income or just flat out broke making smaller payments is easier to budget without impacting other things. My first truck loan was on a twice a month payment schedule and I loved it. That helped me pay it off early in fact.

What is the difference between making $1000/month and budgeting for a $100/month payment, vs making $500 twice a month and budgeting for 2 $50 payments? I guess I don't get it. I budget monthly for when my annual property tax is due...it's not rocket science.

Personal finance is rarely ever “rocket science.” It’s behavior mostly. If that’s what someone wants to do and they’re paying their bills on time then what do you care?

It all seems appealing till you do the numbers. I’d just as well buy the truck and sell it at the end. Granted, I don’t think this is targeting people bad with money who can’t afford the full payment. You would have to have great credit and 7-8k laying around to put down. Some folks just like to lease.

Now a pretty good deal I got in 2020 was a lease. 2021 Civic, 0 down, 270 a month, about 500 in various fees to walk out with it. Basic civic, 36 month 10k a year lease. By the end I’d only put 21k on the car and just bought it out. I think those sweet deals are gone. Made sense at the time.

If I'm reading right, the base line MSRP of that is just over $35k.
That pricing has to be leasing on left and purchasing on right. No way you pay $39k to lease a $35k truck for 5 years and 4 months.

It costs money to buy stuff you can't afford. The irony here is, they aren't even buying. And for sure aren't going on any ski vacations as depicted in the poster. Alas, somebody has to be financially fooked for me to be in the middle, debt free.

So I'm good with it.
