I bought a Shindaiwa Speed Feed 450 head. It reloads easily by threading the line through the head. The head is then wound to take in the line. It is not necessary to disassemble the spool to load new line. It has been very reliable for the two seasons I have used it. I think it was about $40.

When I mowed lawns for customers I always used the Rhino Tuff or equivalent string that had edges on it. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xhf/Ntk-All/Ntt-trimmer%2Bstring/h_d2/Navigation?No=12&langId=-1&storeId=10051&Ntx=mode+matchpartialmax&style=B&catalogId=10053
This string cut through thicker weeds and small saplings that the standard smooth string wasn't as good at cutting.

......replacement is a PITA!!! You'd think someone would come up with an easier idea by now.

I look forward to reading any advice...

I have an older Craftsman weedwacker and I always dread running out of string. You have to feed in 100' of it counter clockwise and if binds up, you have start over. Even when it was brand new, it never really worked right (bumping for more string) and I always find myself pulling it out manually. Plus, I go through a lot of string with chain link fences.

I typically do a lot of cursing when I use it.

+1

My only problem is getting the trimmer to stop spitting all the line out or not feeding because it jams up inside. I know it must be the way I load the string, but anybody know a better way?

Good to know about Husqvarna Titanium. Will have to try it if I can't find the 0.095" Toro I fitted to my Homelite. It calls for 0.080". The spool now lasts me a season plus. The speced 0.080" string was two spools a season.

They have!! Pay 7X for a new prespooled assembly every season instead of the much cheaper spool of line that you struggle with yourself.

Take a look at Weed Warrior. Got our head at TSC. Supposed to be universal fit. Much easier to put shorter strings in more often than the tap and go stuff.

Anybody here actually use a good quality trimmer or just the home owner stuff? I put new trimmer line on our 2 trimmers just about every day. Takes me about 2 minutes for each one and that includes pulling the new line out and cutting it then installing it. Never have any feeding issues and never any jams. Both of our trimmers are echo SRM-230.
