I have a Weed Eater GT-15 gas string trimmer that won't stay running. It has worked fine for 15 years, but last time I trimmed with it I tried to finish my lawn and ended up running it out of gas. I refilled it with fresh gas, but it wouldn't start. Let it sit a day, and I can get it to run with quick-start, but it dies out when that is burned up. Fuel tank was spotless, and in tank filter was also spotless. Running out of ideas as to whats wrong. I know I have good spark and compression, so it is fuel delivery related, and running the tank dry has done something, but what I'm not sure...

I have a weedeater almost 20 years old with this problem. Replacing the fuel filter (it's in the tank at the end of the fuel line) corrected the problem
check for any cracked fuel lines, they can suck air.

I took the carb off. Very easy to do so. Took it to a local small
engine repair place. They sold me a gasket kit for about $9. Took me about 5 minutes to replace the gaskets.
It now runs like new again.
This is the 1st time that I have ever attempted to replace anything in any type of carb. It was so simple and cheap to do.
Hopefully It will be good for another 15 years....

I would try these:
Take the fuel filter off the gas line, and see if it will start up and run. If that does the trick, then it is the filter.
Most likely, it is the gaskets in the carburetor. WeedEater/Poulans normally have either a Zama or Walbro carb. On the side of the carb, there will be a number (Zama will be something like C1Q - E5B for example. Go to Zama Lookup enter the Type and Model number. The rebuild kit will have a listing like RB-125. Go to Ebay and get the kit for 6-8 dollars or go to a dealer and pay 15 dollars.
Rebuilding a carb is very easy. I would not worry about punching out the welch plugs. Just the gaskets and fuel screen (that is usually the problem).
E-10 gas is very hard on the rubber gaskets and diaphragms. When the carb is torn down, clean it good with carb/brake cleaner and blow it out with compressed air or let it dry for a few days.

Timed out. Here is the Walbro link Service Manuals
Rebuilding a small carburetor is pretty easy. Take your time, and make notes of how everything comes apart. Digital camera comes in handy.
It sounds like fuel pump diaphragm is cracked and cannot pull a proper vacuum. After it ran dry, it cannot build a prime.
