Why is it that whenever i type in a website name in the address bar without the www and the .com,the name automatically goes to ebay and does a search for it.Is this a "virus" from Ebay for more business?

It's probably set as your default search engine. You can change it to something else like google or bing. In internet explorer open the Manage add-ons and then Search Providers. In firefox you can click on the down arrow that's next to the search engine logo in the search box and goto Manage Searc Engines, the one on top is the default. I don't use chrome so if that's what you use, there should be a way to change it for chrome too.

Sounds like you may be running and old computer with Windows XP?

I had a similar problem and soon other problems appeared too.

Ended up buying a new computer and had no more problems like that with the new one.

If you didn't do anything recently like adding software (and the ask/ebay toolbar or similar) I'd be very suspicious. I'd also not do any ebay business or banking etc on that computer until you square it away.

Try adding OPENDNS per the instructions at opendns.org to see if that improves things.

99% chance either you or someone else who uses the computer intentionally or unintentionally changed the default search engine to eBay.
