Karen Carpenter passed away on this date. I am not going to go into a lengthy post to explain why I posted the link.

No one ever confused me with a pop music fan, but my ex-girfriend made me take her to see Richard and Karen Carpenter.
They were fantastic. I will never forget their rendition of Leon Russell's Song for you.

As for Karen, what a set of pipes!

If you're in Vegas, see the Carpenters Legacy show. We saw it at some little casino showroom off Strip. It's now moved to the Strip. Amazing show.

Never liked the Carpenters when I was young. Not cool enough. Preferred rock: Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, etc. My loss! I have come to enjoy their music later in life. Great vocals and arrangements. Sad that she left us so soon.

I was a hard rock guy too in my teens in the early 70s. But she had such a voice I always loved her singing.
She may have been the only woman recorded who had perfect pitch.

Yes there are videos out there where folks analyze her singing with modern tools. Probably one of the most pitch accurate singers of all time.

I have always said that, for such a young musical couple(brother & sister), Carpenters music was for grownups. But too, their music appealed to all ages, young & old alike. And Karen's sining was indeed piercing through the heart with her angelic voice. Any time I hear her voice, I weep!

I met her and her brother Richard many years ago. I was the editor of our high school paper and was sent to interview them before their concert. I remember that Richard did all the talking, while Karen sat apart and was quiet and quite subdued. Richard was extremely talented and composed much of their music. It was fascinating listening to him and observing her. He talked extensively about the composing process.

I was then and still am a big fan.

In addition to her amazing voice, she was a top tier drummer.

I totally agree... I laugh when comparing Taylor Swift's vocal quality to Karen Carpenter's. There's no comparision in my book. Karen's sound was angelic.

Still makes me laugh. Karen referred to herself as a ¨Drummer That Sang¨.
