I am hearing a loud squeak every time I open a door in my Civic. I don't have the regular WD-40, but I do have WD-40 Silicone this.

Will this hurt the paint in any way? I'd love to use this if I can, instead of having to buy something else. I read the can but there was nothing about paint on it.

Folks who are recommending other things (than silicone spray):

Are you doing this because you are saying that the silicone spray won't work---or just because you know something else will work?

I use spray chain lube.

Agree...I use spray white lithium grease. You can use the wd for now and keep re-applying and down the road grab a can of white lithium grease its 2-3$ at WM.

The white grease looks good.

While we're at it--would this grease also work lubricating the electric sliding door on a minivan (not asking if it will solve the problem, just if it would provide proper lubrication for the roller part)? I've applied silicone, and it will work for a month or two, and then stop closing again. I never thought it might be because the silicone WD-40 wasn't lasting long....

Yep the white litium should work for that too. Last time I applied it to my car door hinges was a couple years ago..it really lasts.

Just remembered why I was told to use the silicone on my electric door. I heard the silicone will not attract dirt, like the regular WD-40 would, or like other grease would. It very well might be dirt that is causing the door to not shut properly somewhere along the track that the door is sliding along.

Anyways, how would this factor into the white lithium grease? Would it attract dirt over time?

Would the white lithium grease be any more likely to attract dirt, than silicone? Using WD-40 silicone was suggested to me, because it was less likely to attract and hold onto dirt.

I spray all my door hinges and latches with WD-40, good stuff

Sorry but I have to ask: the regular WD-40, or the silicone version that I've been talking about above?

Perfectly fine for paint. In fact, WD40 or silicone spray lube is my first choice for a cleaning product on non porous surfaces when you've got something sticky or gooey on it.

Both, no problems with paint.

OK, thanks for clarifying that.

The WD40 silicone is okay for paint. I asked them this once, as not all silicone sprays are. CRC if I recall is one of the ones that has quite a bit of acetone in it, and that can be hard to some finishes given it is a paint solvent.

As for using regular WD40, I would never ever ever use it in an intricate thing like a lock. It can and does turn to a gummy varnish like substance. Many a gunsmiths love when people use it though, since eventually it gums up the gun and they get business.
