Water pump/timing belt question?

I forgot when's the last time I've changed my water pump/timing belt on my 2000 camry (5s-fe) with 135k miles. The belt is still in pretty good shape, but I've no idea how to check the pump. I think I either changed them at 60k or 90k miles.

Also, any other maintenance items I should be aware of?

Is the pump driven by the timing belt as other Toyotas I have worked on? If so change it at belt service . The "only" way to check it is to remove the belt and see if there is any play in the pump shaft or if there is coolant signs at the waterpump drip hole.

If the belt is in good shape just leave it alone and monitor the coolant level once in a while. When it goes bad you'll know it. Don't sweat the small stuff.

How can you check the timing belt on this car without taking it off?

Is there an exposed area?

Covers need to be removed to expose a view.

Visual inspection of timing belts is almost useless. If it is really bad with obvious cracking, missing teeth, etc, then yes, it needs to be replaced. However, if it looks great (which almost every Toyota OEM belt does after 150k), that does NOT mean it isn't about to fail. If you only have 135k and you have changed the belt once, forget about it. Toyota WP's are almost always good for at least two TB changes or about 180k.

The other things to check while you are in there would be the pulleys and tensioner that the belt rides on.
Check for bad bearings.

I'll just add a note to also check the PCV valve as it is critical to keep it clear of any buildup that would restrict or block airflow through it.

Also, give those power steering/AC/Alternator belts a look.

Of course, check your maintenance schedule and see if you need to change any fluids or spark plugs.

Has the power steering fluid been changed?

@120k miles, I've drain and refilled Power steering/coolant/transmission. Got new plugs.

@130k miles, changed the PCV/radiator/battery/tires.

I really like my car and planned to drive it for another 5 years.
