Water pump for my 1997 Chevrolet cavalier

My neighbor's 2000 Cavalier with 2.2 only has 155k mi but still going. Typical flakey/sticky key cylinder and interior is falling apart. I got the a/c blowing cold last year. They have a LOT of glass and really the windows should be tinted, at least in the rear.

It was a base model with roll-up windows and cloth seats, and even has the three-speed auto as apparently OD was an option!! He still gets over 31mpg on the highway he says. He drives it from CO to Space Camp in Florida -- not kidding!!

ANYWAY, I'm guessing that's the incorrect water pump?

Yeah the one that I removed on the Left and supposedly the correct replacement on the right.

You definitely have the wrong pump I'd say

Yeah, the 2.4 was the engine based on the "Quad-4" Oldsmobile engine. Totally different animal.

Not to be confused with the various (2?) versions of 2.4 Ecotec.

When should I be seeing timing chain problems on my Ecotec?
That is like saying when should someone be seeing lifter failure on their 5.3, its not possible to predict.

Most cases of 2.2 Ecotec timing chain issues occur around that 100,000-150,000 mile range but it doesn't mean everyone will experience it at that mileage or experience it during the life of the vehicle, but it doesn't negate the fact that it is a well known common issue on these engines.

I was being silly... Sorry, I was assuming my signature might show up, but perhaps not. Mine has 261,000 miles and has never dripped a drop of oil. I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a road trip tomorrow.
