Long story short, a year or so ago, the top of my oil dipstick broke off, so I have it just sort of sitting in the tube, with a wire looped around that I use to pull it out with. Never got around to replacing the dipstick.

Anyway, today it's raining hard as heck here, and floods basically everywhere. About 1/4 mile from my work, I guess a bunch of water from a puddle or something splashed up and a bunch went down the dipstick tube.

I noticed when I got to work that I had some blue/white smoke from the tailpipe, and my oil separator that I have in the PCV->intake hose was all mucky looking like you see when oil is contaminated with water.

Anyways, I immediately changed the oil when I got to work, and it really didn't look too horrible. But basically, I was just planning on leaving this ---- oil in for a little while (I was about 200 miles from my next normal interval change to PP,) and changing it shortly afterwards.

How long do you experts suggest I leave this conventional stuff in there for? Or, do I not really even need to leave it in for very long at all? I don't want to contaminate the PP right away, so any advice would be appreciated.

Buy a new dipstick!

At first I thought you meant your dipstick TUBE broke off, but now I see all you need is a new dipstick itself. I was already to tell you how to replace the dipstick tube.

You could probably put a vacuum cap over the tube until you were able to find the time to replace the dipstick. Myself, I couldn't stand going 5 minutes without a dipstick for my engine.

LOL. Yeah that's definately part of the plan.

How about advice as to how long to leave this oil in for before I get rid of it?

*Dump pp into safe clean container..
*Buy supertech.
*Run supertech for 200 miles.
*dump+recycle.
*Throw your PP back in.
My 2c

How old is this car or truck? Even if I had to go to a salvage yard to get a dipstick, I can't think of anything easier to take off a car.

1996. You'd think in a city of 600,000+ people, there would be one junkyard with one to pick from.. yeah.. you'd think.

You must be driving one of those French Peutchos or something. That's pronounced poo-zjoe by the way.

Get a Mercedes AMG 55 and forget about the dipstick. They use an oil sensor.

Anyone old enough to remember the old Candid Camera TV show? One week they put a 6 foot long dip stick in an engine and had an actress drive into a service station and ask the attendant to check her oil. What a great scene seeing the guy pull out the 6 foot long dip stick.

Candid Camera first appeared on TV in 1948. I used to watch in the 1950's. The dipstick episode was from a show in the 1950's.
