Water in new oil

Every time I see this thread when checking the HDEO forum, what comes to mind is "that oil may not have gone through an engine, but it's definitely not new oil anymore."

If you leave a barrel of oil outside even with the cap on it, and water collects on the top of the barrel it will pull water and contaminants into the barrel as it expands and contracts with the outside temp. CATERPILLAR has very stringent requirements to keep oil clean before using it, One such requirement is store on its side with the lid at the top or cover the barrel. There is no other acceptable storage arrangement. Right or Wrong that's the policy printed in their operation manual.

OK, I will try to take a picture.
I know the "original owner" who used to run the boatbuilding company which went into bankruptcy, he confirmed that it´s the correct oil. Ther was another guy buing it and some other stuff from the law firm in charge of the bankruptcy, that is the guy I bought it from.
It may once have been the correct oil but is now Contaminated.

I would not run it in any engine.

if you use it Pull pump about 3 or inches OFF the drum bottom and then pump out oil.
over time water, dirt and crap will settle to bottom oil is still suspect but at least if you do this you MAY have a chance
to use it somewhere.

How cheap did you buy this drum?

Worst comes to worst, use a shop vacuum with a thin tube attached and drain off liquid from the bottom of the barrel, see how hazy it is with water - just a little from a leaky barrel pump or "left outside uncapped in a rainstorm" / "had a disgruntled employee pour water and god knows what else into the barrel"

I bought a barrel of Volvo Penta 15W-50, VDS 4.5. It turned out that I´ve been fooled, I got the information from another source that the barrel have been sitting without a cap for a while and therefore got some water in it :-(
The oil is slightly "hazy". I´ve been running it in my Pentas for one hour now and it looks normal at the moment.

What do you think ?
"Ditch it all" or "It will boil off" ?
Send us pictures of the oil preferably in a smaller transparent a plastic cup or a glass jar.
That oil might be fine for lawnmowers of farm equipment. You can heat small batches to 100°C for 5-10 min. and the water will evaporate instantly. Then you can use it.
