I swear that mattress was 20ft in the air when it flew off the truck from the opposite lane. If I didn't hit the brakes it would have went through my windshield for sure. Almost missed it but still ran over the corner of it. Guess that tire mark will remind those guys to strap that sucker down next time😂🥴, you don't really think about stuff getting into the roadway from the opposing lane.

While it sounds minor and/or funny, unsecure loads like this can be fatal. I was behind a flatbed the other day carrying a pallet of concrete bags that were not strapped down. Every time the truck slowed down or accelerated the stack would sway. I got around that truck in a hurry.

100mph combined between both vehicles on a 2 lane rd I would have been dead for sure. I just can't believe how high it went.

Saw that last week. Dude had about 5 quick crete bags sitting on the tailgate holding the wood down. 🙄

A double- door refrigerator missed me by a smidgen a few years ago. The only reason I didn't get hit was because I had a bad feeling and started switching lanes a fraction of a second before the fridge came loose. I saw the fridge fly by in slow-motion.

In this state bad things can happen to those who do not secure the loads. And that is a good thing. Too many people been hurt and worse, from unsecured loads. Oh and weight is not considered a secured load, only rope or strapping, netting, tarping etc. is a secured load.

several years ago i had a piece of 4x4 maybe 2 feet long come off of a construction truck , it bounced one time in front of me and then hit my windshield, yep cost me a windshield. I couldn't serve or even brake due to the amount of traffic

Right now out here in the northern part of Minnesota, they’re cutting and baling hay. Not the small squares (some still do) but the big, giant, and heavy round bales.

They stack them on a flatbed and some guys may skip the straps and rely on friction to hold them in place, likely for short trips.

I stay far away from those trucks because they’re usually driven fast, by guys who skip safety protocols, and in trucks that aren’t suited for long haul travel any longer.

A woman was killed by a bale that fell off one of these kinds of trucks a few years ago. So it has happened and I’m not just thinking it might… 🫤

The only "driving things" my dad would shake his fist over were unsecured loads and inept trailering.

I swear, as a kid in the car, I saw an empty, single axle trailer bouncing from left wheel to right wheel on the highway.

My father was driving home from work one day.
He saw a pickup truck in front of him loaded with a dining room set (table and chairs).
Every time the driver hit a pothole; a chair would fly out.

My father said to me, "how does he explain to his wife - WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CHAIRS ?"

I see that a lot. Then they weigh about 1k pounds each, so they can't do anything when one gets out of place. Saw one was hanging off the edge of the trailer one time about to fall off, guy just kept going

I passed a truck hauling a mattress with just two tie down straps. The mattress was fully up like a sail while the truck was going 70mph on the freeway. 🙄

I think some people put them up against the cab for the last 2ft to flap in the wind

Dang. I ran over a bumper that fell off of a early/mid-80's Oldsmobile while driving my '93 Cavalier once. That was a bit of a bump and a prolonged bout of cussing.

Years back I was riding my Harley Electragide down the freeway 70mph. Someone lost a mattress off a truck. The car in front of me ran it over and it flipped up into the air. It cleaned me right off my bike before I could even slow down. Between my shattered right wrist and road rash I was out of work for two months.
