I was using this for years till this summer when I switched to their diesel/gasoline HD 30 oil. Does anyone have any specs on these? And I keep hearing bout all the different between groups and such.. Would all these info be on the container??

I believe Wal-Mart's store brand synthetic is a Group III oil based on something I read here previously. The price point in particular leads me to that conclusion.

The 'problem' with Supertech is that it is not at all a monolithic brand. Supertech bought on the west coast is made by a different manufacturer than the stuff, in the same bottle, on the left coast. In Canada, much of it is manufactured by an outfit who's claim to fame is recycling used motor oil. So really, its incredibly hard to determine what you are really getting.

If you are interested in synthetic oil for your vehicle, and live in Canada, I would stronly suggest you try out Esso XD-3, or look into which brands of President's Choice motor oil are repackaged XD-3, as has been reported on these forums. As a guy off the street, with no fleet account, I can get XD-3 0W30/0W40 cheaper from my local Esso distributor than I can buy Supertech synthetic from Wal-Mart for. And the 0W30/0W40 XD-3 is a top-notch PAO group IV synthetic (says so right in the product literature), whereas good product literature on the Wal-Mart store brand oil is difficult to find, if not proprietary and non-existent.

Just a thought. Not an Esso salesman.

I"ve been debating between XD-3 and GC. I'm guessing I will go with CD-3 for now. How would I go about finding a distributor for my area in Ontario? Kinda off topic here.. how can I find out a place that will take my old used oil. *thats not going to charge me ridiculous price just to take it*.. yes.. I heard to just drop it off at the door steps of a shop at night and they will have to handle it.. but I dont know bout doing that.. I do have a fire pit and some good ol wood that I need to burn though that are damp

The outfit you buy the oil from should be able to give you advice on its proper, legal disposal.

Wrong wrong and wrong.

All walmart synthetic and synthetic blends are the WPP products.

And there is a thread elsewhere about how to identify the other oils. West coast is Mobil, mid is WPP and East is something else I don't remember.

There is nothing wrong with this. They just want to make sure that they are keeping oil to sell on the shelves and WPP couldn't keep up with how much walmart wanted to buy.

Not wanting to argue about semantics here, but how does that make what I wrote above 'wrong'? Even your reply admits that there are a number of different varieties of 'Supertech' oil, and that, often different stuff can be found in the bottle whether you are on the east, west coast, or in Canada.

Are you sure the Supertech 'synthetic' sold in Canada is also WPP?

I didn't imply there was anything 'wrong' with it. But it definitely is problematic when it comes to comparing the wear properties and additive packages of 'Supertech' against benchmarks for known 'Supertech' benchmark figures. Almost comparing apples to oranges, surely Wal-Mart doesn't have a massive engineering department that specifies additives -- the oil gets whatever the contract manufacturer du jour decides to put in it in order for it to meet spec.

Nope, completely different. I believe the Tech 2000 stuff sold in Canada is sourced from Petro Canada.

We don't know if the Wal*Mart brand oils are the same as Mobil Drive Clean, or the East (Quaker State?), or something cheaper custom blended for Wally's huge volume and demand for lowest cost.

If we are talking about the Titan, bear in mind that Wally's 5-30 and 10-30 syn's, like Castrol Syntec and M1 are Starburst oils and to the very thin side.

Don't know if the Titan like the thin starburst oils or not yet.

Since the owners manual also says that a 10w-40 is okay above 0 F as well, I'd say it would probably like a thicker 30wt on break in. But, who knows. I am definitely doing a used oil analysis on the factory fill.

I used Walmart tech2000 5w30 synthetic and 15-40 semi syn. I wanted to know who makes Walmart tech2000 so I called Walmart Canada. They told me to call my local Walmart, I called two Walmart Automotive Managers, one in Medicine Hat, other Swift Current.

Medicine Hat response: Tech2000 is Quaker State, Quaker State bought out by Pennzoil, Tech2000 is Pennzoil.

Swift Current response: Tech2000 was Q.S. and P.O., it is now made by Safety Kleen as of last year (Sept). The conv oils are recycled, they did not know if syn oils were. He told me Safety Kleen is a part of Esso, (I dont believe that Esso part).

I think Tech2000 may be Supertech bottled in Tech2000 lables, who knows, problem is, we dont know where this oil comes from, and if we do, wait one month and the supplier will change.

I now use only XD3, I agree with Pitzel, XD3 is the answer, name brand oil with full backing of Esso on warrantee.

One dept store carrying a great oil at great price is Super Store, look at the bottles on President Choice bottles, they are Esso bottles, the 3 stars on bottom bottle is Esso product. As an example, Esso XD3 15-40 at Esso bulk is $2.75, at SuperStore the same XD3 oil in P.C. 15-40 is $1.90 litre. I buy all synthetic XD3 at Esso bulk, cant beat price on Esso syn anywhere else, if after conv oils Superstore sells name brand oil under P.C. lable, who knows what Walmart uses for source, buyer beware.

I stopped using Walmart oil, no definite source given, I could call 100 Canadian stores and get 100 answers easy, I went through this ordeal finding out was this Tech2000 was, vicious circle, not worth it, no sleep at night not knowing what is going in an engine with this Walmart brand.

i would like to know too

does SuperStore carry xd-3 Ow-30?

OK.. so I will stay away from their synthetic.. I guess I will have to stay away from their HD diesel oil they sell in 20L also to be on the safe side for their conventional.
