Wash and MXV4s

The stock conti's on the focus were starting to get pretty noisy, they aren't too worn yet, but though they weren't the worst tire I've had, they aren't great. They were borderline in the winter. I decided while they are running the promotion, to head over to Mavis and pick up a set of Michelin MXV4s. I plan on reselling the original conti's on CL. If anyone has a need for a cheap set of 215/55/16 tires let me know

Anyway here are some pics after it finished and I washed it.

Also, how is the move to Ohio? Still planning on doing it?

Primacy MXV4s. Ohio is no longer happening, we found out later, that apparently even though they say they want former military, First Energy doesn't actually hire former military for one reason or another. So at this point, what we are being told is that nobody is going to call him until he goes on terminal leave, and after that we should be fine.

We could end up anywhere at this point, SC, I believe there is on e in illinois that is a possibility as well. I'll make a thread on it when we know for sure.

Looks good. Costco will be putting a set on the wife's Corolla tomorrow and my Impreza next week. Can't wait to get the junk rubber off my car that is on there now.

If you don't mind, after a few hundred miles I'd like to know if your mileage is any different. Just curious because the last set of tires I got for the Corolla aren't the greatest. My mileage seemed to drop around 1.5mpg with them, it's a Hercules tire IIRC.

Very nice Focus BTW! I love Michelin tires as well. I'm starting to do early research on tires for the next set(only 10K on these so far). I know the Michelins can be pricey, but they seem to be worth it in most cases.

I believe we have those Conti's on the Civic, like you said not the greatest but not the worst either. Won't buy another set of them.

FYI, even if you were going to get the exact same tire model as the old one, you'd notice a slight drop in mpg with a new tire. Some energy is lost on tread squirm. A new tire with full tread has more tread squirm.

Thanks, I don't really know a whole lot about tires. I can't compare to the last set since they were a different brand. I will say that I haven't noticed mpg drops like this before though(I keep detailed mileage logs). Do you think the mileage will improve as the tires wear?

Yes, that's basically what I was saying. Less tread = better mpg.

The Primacy MXV4s seem to have better ride quality, and better snow performance. Primarily I wanted them for the ride quality, as that is one of the most important aspects of a tire for me. And so far, they are a pretty big improvement over the Contis, though as I expected, handling responsiveness suffered a little, which is fine.

I can't speak for the snow performance, but I found the MXM4s to have a better ride quality, traction and lower rolling resistance...but I don't think you'll be disappointed with the MXV4s.

Wow, swapped out at 15k? Ours had 56k and my brother's are at 65k. Wet traction feel (hydroplane) was starting to be worrysome, but noise wasnt a big issue in either of our VWs. The ford must have lousy soundproofing to justify $600+ worth of new tires at 15k miles.

Hope you sold those tires instead of just turning them in... Lots of life left in them!!

Yeah I'm going to try to sell them. So far it's a nice improvement overall in terms of ride comfort and noise level.
