I sent my son to auto zone to pick up some Valvoline ATF+4 and he was told they no longer carry it instead they carry a multi vehicle atf that they say works just the same... Of course i told him not to buy anything after hearing that..
Next time i am at the dealer picking up parts for the shop i will pick some mopar atf+4 I have over 200,000 miles on an original 1996 Plymouth Voyager transmission using mopar or valvoline atf and it still shifts ok i am not putting in something different in now. What is everyone else using?

hi i have a 99 plymouth breeze i assume it uses the same fluid as yours, im thinking of changing using supertech high mileage fluid, im still undecided but im certain i want a high mileage fluid

You can use their house brand ATF+4 with confidence. Valvoline, Castrol, Pennzoil, Mobil, Petro-Canada, Autozone, AAP, even Walmart ATF+4 is fine. In fact, it's the exact same as Valvoline and Mopar.

ALL licensed ATF+4 is the same! Every single one you see on that list is the same. ATF4 isn't just a spec, but rather they only permit a specific Lubrizol add pack to one of three approved group-III base stocks (Petro-Canada, SK Korea, and Shell).

Whatever licensed ATF+4 you can get the cheapest will be fine.

But if you still insist on Valvoline, then go to Napa and get their Napa ATF+4. Valvoline/Ashland makes all of Napa's house brand oil and ATF.

Even though Redline C+ isn't licensed, it is semi-popular on here and actually better than anything Chrysler/CQA is willing to license.

I hear that a lot around here and it may be true but i had great luck with mopar and valvoline that i am afraid to switch. On the other hand i don't know if they are really all the same they all seem to smell different and some even looks different so im not sure how true that is and who knows whats going on with that license. over 200,000 on a chrysler transmission of that era is almost like winning the lottery..lol

im not certain but i did see supertech high mileage unknown variety, im not a mechanic and will have a garage do the work for me, i wasnt even sure what kind mine takes till i read your post

Sounds like the house brand is a generic all makes type atf that isn't holding any +4 approval. Id steer clear.

Doesn't WM carry mopar +4?

Wrong.

There *is* Autozone ATF+4, Walmart Supertech ATF+4, Napa ATF+4, etc.

Some WM's carry Mopar, or they used to. But the good news is that they do have a specific Supertech ATF+4 which *is* licensed and even has the license number on the bottle,.

Check the CQA site again

licensed ATF+4 list

These are NOT generic all-makes ATF!

Go on Napa's site and look up part #75206

Walmart ATF+4 which is licensed

I bought 12 QTS of valvoline atf+4 for $1 each during the big sale around Christmas. Haven't noticed if they restocked it,all +4 is the same

Not wrong. Comprehension is key here...

I never said there weren't store brand licensed ATFs in existence. Just that per the OP, that store doesn't carry valvoline or a store brand, and are using this generic stuff.

No thanks.

I bought a few quarts of ATF+4 for $4 Aeschylus at AZ last December during their clearance. Whenever AAP has their Castrol ATFs for that price is a good stock up price too IMO.

If all else fails, get Supertech. It's all the same.

Bingo

Chrysler has to approve any ATF+4 fluid; if it meets ATF+4 it's OK to use. Beware though, not using or not topping off with ATF+4 is indicated as a cause of Chryco trans failures.

The dealer filter is good quality.

Note also that some (all?) Chryco transmissions do not pump in Park. Check in Neutral or read the manual for your specific vehicle procedure.

Well they are.

There are very minute differences in the base oils, all a small range of variations allowed. The PI package is exactly the same which is what's important. The differences in VI/MRV is usually pretty small if you compare them and probably just due to different equipment being used between the brands.

Why?

There is no high mileage substitute for ATF+4, if you change to the Supertech high mileage Atf it's a Dexron/Mercon based fluid with vastly difficult frictional characteristics. If you do this your transmission will have noticeable issues with shifting and you will see why you should only use a proper ATF+4.

Please do yourself a favor and stick with a certified ATF+4. If you want to experiment the only fluid with the correct frictional characteristics that isn't on the approved list is Redline C+. It's superior to ATF+4 with the correct additive package but uses a superior base oil package that isn't approved by chrysler but is more than up to the task.
