Was given a warning in PA. Verbal or documented?

OK...That throws a different light on it....Then you did not deserve a warning.

I witnessed a surreal experience... oddly in PA, though I do not spend much time driving through there!

Cop paced myself and a black guy in a BMW, we were in a pack of two cars going the speed limit etc. Sped to pass us then parked in a turnaround to radar us. We sure weren't speeding, in fact BMW guy slowed to 35 or so.

Then the cop pulled in behind us and continued.

This leap frog game continued 2 or 3x, it was ridiculous.

Another time I got paced for 11 miles in a 40 MPH one lane construction zone in hilly terrain. Decided it was a good place for some technical driving, downshifting to save brake lights and not let him know he was getting to me. Cop was approaching in the two-lane part with the "it narrows" sign, saw my out of state plates, and pulled in just before the merge.

On topic I think there's less paperwork than you suspect. When I fought a ticket (not in PA) the cop dropped the charges in the courtroom hallway, talked to the clerk, then nodded to me across the room that I was in the clear. No paper!

The trooper let me go with a warning, but never gave me a paper copy of the warning or anything to sign.

Was this a verbal warning or is this warning documented somewhere? If documented, for how long in PA?

A verbal warning is only documented in the dispatch records (CAD) as a vehicle stop. Nothing else.

I am a retired police officer in FL. Lane changes w/o signal are actually allowed, signal is required when changing direction (F.S.S. 316.155).

I was pretty lenient, I would not even look at vehicles going less than 15 over, on the interstate was like 25 over. I wanted the conscious decision. School zones 10 over -- you are mine! no exceptions. We were limited by policy not to issue for anything less than 10 over for speed. Most of my DUI arrests came from weaving/drifting (single lane violation), equipment violations, wide turns, etc.
The S.O. that I work for now, requires Deputies to at least issue a Written Warning for violations, but Verbals are allowed. Most all traffic stops I did, Driver Attitude played a major part in whether a citation was issued too.

There was some major DUI campaign this weekend. It was in the papers. I got pulled over pulling into the church last night for having a license plate bulb out (son's car). He explained why.

I then got to ask him about sobriety tests. I said due to no cartilage in one knee and some neuropathy in the feet, balance was rougher than it used to be.

I also asked about the alphabet backwards thing

He said the real tell was the eye coordination with the following the finger thing. He said that they don't train for the reciting the alphabet backwards thing. He kinda said that some cops must do that for entertainment since he didn't think he could do it without hours of practice. We both agreed that attempting it, without rational protest that it was a rigged test "I can't do that", would be an indication of intoxication.

I don't drink ..at least not as a practice. So I really don't have to worry about it much.

I was going to a jobsite in a seedy part of town at about 4 in the morning, in a company truck with insigna on the door and city cop pulled me over, for what he said I didnt use my turn signal. I am really conscience about using my turn signal, because I use to drive big trucks and It got to be a safe habit to always use your turn signal. Anyway, he pulled me over and I what quickly went from a not using the turn signal went to let me see your coffee cup, which I did, since it was coffee, he actually took off the lid and smelled it, then sent me on my way. I think the turn signal pull over is fishing for cops. This was in Daytona beach, Florida.

The court house that handles DUI must be getting lean on cattle to process. The trash crews must have no one to do the work. The counselors have too few to counsel. Revenues for the machinery must be down.

The cops get to be the wranglers.

Look for .06 in the near future. We need more people marked by the system.

What's the turn signal rule anyway? 100 feet? 200? Sure it varies. There are some traps where if I signaled in time for a major intersection, I'd have it on before some side street, and in violation for "not completing (my) turn".

Doesn't matter if anyone is there or not. If the road is deserted, you are still required to give proper signal. Just the way it is.

Just asking....

It started about 40 years ago and has only gotten worse. I've had a couple tickets over the years for nonsense like 5 over in a regular non-residential, non-school area -- got 'em dropped.

The next time one of these thugs gives me a ticket, I'm going to say, "You know, my mother told me that when I was in trouble, to ask a policeman for help, because that's what they're there for. I think she'd be ashamed to give me that advice now."
