Warren doens't make oil???

I found a post in another forum where someone stated that Warren was only a distributor of oils and not a manufacturer; that they basically outsourced to whoever could meet the specs at the right price. IS this true?

It also said as a result that supertech was made by all different companies depending on who they bought the latest batch from. Quaker State was one of them mentioned.

Warren and the rest of the 'blenders' don't MAKE oil; they blend puchased base stocks and additives for a number of customers.
Their products can be top notch-Quicksilver, Honda oils, for example, or really marginaly stuff; like house branded land no-name oils.

Amsoil doesn't make base oil, Valvoline doesn't make base oil, I doubt if any/many of the boutique brands make oil. Blending is a big business these days.

So anyone know who makes the base oil for supertech???

and is it just plain old GP-II?

Remember that Warren has a synthetic oil that is GM 4718M approved.

That's a pretty exclusive club to belong to... and it is a "store branded" oil as well.

Also, Honda motorcycle oil is quite ordinary and overpriced.

Heck, Castrol doesn't "make" oil, nor does Redline or the spendy Euro oils. Bottom line, making your own basestocks is not a prerequisite for making good motor oil. In fact, unless you do it big and fast, it could/would be a detriment to be tied to only the type of base oil manufactured at home, so to speak.

Yes, Lubrication Engineers used to claim not refining meant they could go out and buy the finest basestocks and not be forced to use what the refinery was producing. Many heavy equipment operators used nothing but Lubriplate.

Which Warren?---Warren Oil Company or Warren Distribution? Two separate companies, neither of which refine oil, both blend oil.

Castrol is one of BP's brands, and BP is one of the world's leaders in lube refining.

In the past some have said that Wal*Mart contracts out their oil production to different outfits, maybe depending on price, maybe depending on the region of the country.
