Walmart's low prices hurt every one.

I live in the country. Wal-Mart isn't all that cheap, as they have become very good at adjusting their price to the prevailing market.

I like a bargain probably better than most people, but I have come to realize that most of the time the big box stores are for people who value their time at $2.75 per hour. That said, we shouldn't forget how it was before the BB stores came along. There used to be a chain hardware store here that was maybe three timesas big as a ma and pa store. They would let the lines get 18 deep on Saturday morning because....well, because they could. I don't miss that one little bit.
 
I agree that other stores have better deals when there is a sale. The difference is that W-M has a sales-ish price all the time.

For stuff like nexgen and RTS, I've done MUCH better on occasion.

To me, the hassle of shopping at Walmart makes me look for deals elsewhere. Given the lines and the rude mix of people there, of I can avoid going, I do. There is indeed a perception, not reality that they have the lowest prices. But as I said before, they are consistently sales-ish prices, good in a pinch.

What surprises me is how auto parts stores in the same shopping center as a W-M can charge the obscene prices they do. If it was down the road, the circumstance may be different.

Given the way that W-M treats employees, if really trying to save a buck, and assuming I don't need it in the next five minutes, I'll often buy at amazon (assuming they are cheaper which also isn't always the case). I generally get my stuff in a day given my location.

Basically Walmart tells their vendors we will pay $____ for your product. If the vendor says No, then Walmart simply tells the vendor we wont sell your products at any of our stores.

BTW, if you watch the show, you will see 12 quart cases of Pennzoil Conventional traveling down a conveyer belt at a Walmart distribution center.

Absolutely.

It is helping to outsource our much needed manufacturing jobs and forces our tax dollars to supplement Walmart's employees.
 
How about we tell Walmart what we will pay for their products and see how they like those apples. Eh it won't work we're just a bunch of divided and small scale consumers

The Walmart oil is being made overseas? I'm not exactly a fan of everything Walmart does-but no one is forcing anyone to set foot in the place. The ones by me are annoying to shop in, they're definitely "resting on their laurels" (their past success)-but I would HATE to see retail prices if they had never existed-I would bet 30-40% more MINIMUM across the board. I'm sure it's not s great place to work-but does it beat unemployment, or nothing?
 
My favorite line in the whole Wal-Mart debate is auto stores have oil change specials for less than Wal-Mart's everyday price.

That is not the case around here, even with Auto-Zones Pennzoil special with a inferior filter I would spend about 8 dollars more per oil change compared to using a better filter and same oil from Wal-Mart.

It must be different in other parts of the country.

I love WalMart....I only buy my oil there because I save money. If you don't like WalMart don't shop there.

Perhaps that is true...in Hawaii. We have an Orschelns chain here that quite often has Trop-Artic on sale for $2.29/quart and had it for $1.99/quart during the black Friday sale a few months ago. Last year O'Reillys had some excellent sales on oil and filter combos and within the last year my local Alco store had some Kendall Titanium oil on sale for $1.99/quart. All of these prices were for oil that came in quart containers.
I think most prices in Hawaii and Alaska are just naturally higher than the other 48 states.

Publix Supermarkets down here has Buy One, get One Free deals on many items in the store every week. I use coupons from the Sunday newspaper for added shavings

Example:
Motts apple juice is BOGO free. I buy 4 bottles (half gallon each) and use two $1 off coupons that makes it way cheaper than Walmart's "everyday low price"

4 bottles of Motts apple for $3.98 at Publix.

It's not a bad place to work, that is such a myth (and union propaganda). I personally know two people who have jobs there and neither one ever complains about it nor criticizes management nor the local store.

I can't speak for the U.S., but up here, Walmart is not the best place to by oil, by a long shot, unless it's on rollback. Canadian Tire and Walmart have ridiculously high regular prices on motor oil. I can get better deals at grocery stores, part stores, and even garages and gas stations.

So, either Walmart loses a bit of money on its rollbacks and subsidizes it with their regular price, or their regular price markup is absolutely astronomical.

My sister-in-law's mom has worked at a Walmart for over 15 years, drives 45 minutes one way to get there, and absolutely loves working there. If somebody hates to purchase items at Walmart, or hates to work there, who is making them go into the store? My simple advice is to stay away from the building if you don't like the company.
 
Those evil parts stores need to stop ripping me off on oil, marking everything up 30% and forcing me to shop at the largest US employer, Walmart!

All the oil Company's (and other companys)should tell Wal Mart to buy products for the same price as every one else. With Wal Marts "lower than every one" prices every one else is all of a sudden considered expensive giving Wal Mart even more power to tell company's how much they can charge.

I buy very little from Walmart.Despite their illusion of low prices,I find Walmart is more expensive on a lot of things that can be bought elsewhere (or online).That said I do buy oil there and Mopar filters (VIP/Oreilly wants $9.99 for a $6.00 090 filter).If Walmart went away I would not be sad,but since they killed off so many other places (Ames,Richs,Caldor,Bradlees) there arent many choices left....aside from Target,and there arent any around here.
