Walmart's low prices hurt every one.

Everyday price is lower at Walmart, but usually 1 or more grocery chains has it on sale for $3 or less, similar to many weekly sale items.

We have 4-5 grocery chains in So Cal, we don't have Publix, we stock up when 1 or more chains has deep discount on items we like, most of the time we paid 20-30% less than Walmart.

Same for oil, everyday price at Walmart is lower than anywhere else, but you can get it on sale at 1 of the chains for a lot less, as long as you don't stay with a brand.

Yep for people who live in the Midwest Meijer's right now has 5.1 quart jug of Quaker State AD and a Purolator classic filter for $15.99. Not the deal of the century but beating Walmart's price by at least $2-3, with the regular price at Meijer being the same. And also a sale on Castrol High Mileage and P1 and Mobil 1 5.1 qts.

I saw some Trico exact fit wipers blades there for $7/piece which is a good price. All these prices beat Walmart's. While you're there you can pick up some meat and produce that's not garbage.

When the sales are on, Wal-Mart is easily the one lagging behind. Every day price is better but come on - those Next Gen promos? You couldn't hold a $2 Walmart candle to that deal.

What about the filter deals at NAPA? No way jose. We beat Wal-Mart every time with better filters (Gold) at better prices (40-70% off reg price) during our bi-yearly sale. The only better deal I've found other than us has been that Purolator Metal Wars rebate awhile back, maybe 2 years ago? That was with AAP and I got in on that deal. Who could resist?

I know a lot of folk (like my FIL) who just walk in to Wal-Mart and head to the automotive section while the wife shops for groceries and they pick up a 5 gal jug of Havoline and a Fram or Purolator filter. I call those people the "average-joe oil buyers". "Average Joe" probably doesn't shop for deals; maybe doesn't have the time. Couldn't be bothered with a MIR to save his life. (I'm not talking about my FIL btw, he is pretty attentive to my yacking to him about deals) For "average joe" Wal Mart is the best deal because he gets the best "every day price". However, there are several folks who shop at auto parts stores and buy oil at full price just because they want to.

It's a free commerce and people have the right to shop where they want to. Not every ethic is ethical; not every business practice is morally adept; but it is what it is.

Yeah but getting Walmart to price match will take all day waiting in line lol. And I'm not sure they will match an oil and filter deal where you have to buy both products to get the sale price. Walmart claims to be the cheapest so why should I do their work for them? They don't even sell Trico wipers or for the most part decent meat and produce.

tell me about it. Before I worked electronics I worked produce at wal-mart and they had us build endcaps of celery and lettuce - you know, the stuff you store in your fridge?

I asked them why in the world they wanted Celery on an endcap and they said "so it sells better". Yeah, I'm going to want warm celery. That's so appetizing. I even asked if I should rotate it out. "No."

I have to say that I have no complaints with the local Walmart's meat & produce. Variety is limited, but quality is fine.
